How to teach someone to mix

Ok, if i am trying to teach someone to mix, and they understand beatmatching, do you think a good strategy would be to generally say Mix in the trebble, then the mids, then the bass of track 2 coming in?
how did you guys learn how to do it?

For me, way back in the day, I started out not even really using the treble and mids...you don't really need them if you're mixing in the first/last minute or so of the tracks.

OK, so track one is playing, you want to mix in track two...here's a "basic mix":

1) Wait until there's a minute or so left in track 1(when it stops playing melody stuff and gets down to the basics, so to speak). Have the gains set correctly, the EQs all set to 0 dB, and the tracks beatmatched.
2) Start playing track 2 at the beginning, line it up with track 1, turn bass all the way down on it
3) Move volume fader all the way up on track 2, move crossfader over to the middle if you don't just have it in the middle in the first place.
4) Wait 8 or 16 beats or so, then turn track 1's bass all the way down and track 2's to 0 dB however you desire.
5) Move the volume fader down on track 1, or move the crossfader over if you're into that sort of thing.

Voila! This tends to sound pretty good no matter what the tracks are as long as you're not mixing in the middle of a track...which they're not going to be doing anyway because they can't beatmatch fast enough to do that....and you're not on a club system, and they will hopefully will not be playing at a club.

That would be my next step.

Also, have them work on bringing in the tracks at the beginning of a phrase (you know, the counting 8 beats thing), instead of just wherever.
