I'm looking to get into the RPG scene, although I don't want to pay a monthly fee. I've heard of titles such as Everquest and Baldur's Gate and Guild Wars, but my only RPG experience is Diablo 2 so I don't really know whats fun and whats not.
And what does the acronym MMO Role Playing Game stand for? Cause that seems to be the genre I'm looking at.
>Thanks!

After Diablo 2 many of that crowd went into guild wars. It is similar, huge world, separate instances of the battles for each party, it works alot like Diablo 2 except player vs player is much bigger, and it has no monthly fee.
Most of the others you must pay monthly for

MMORPG stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.
If you are looking for something free guildwars is probably your best bet right now. However, in my experience if you want to play a game like this the ones with the monthly fee are usually much better in terms of content.

Stick with Diablo 2. I think it's the best free MMORPG.

Hey man. I've played alot of mmorpg's and there are very few with no fee. Guild Wars is the top free one right now. It doesnt have as many options as some though.
I know you arent looking to pay, but a new promising game is Dungeons and Dragons Online. Never been a huge D&D fan, but as looking at it from a pure content, quality online mmorpg it seems pretty impressive.
There's also some single player games that you might like. There's Morrowind and it's sequal Oblivion that's going to be out next month.

second life is kinda fun sometimes, but it isn't really a game, more like a chat room with a 3d environment. It has some framerate issues and your arent gonna have a smooth action packed experience on the thing but you can build stuff and there are all sorts of little fun things to do on it, you probably cant get much better without paying.
What I wish for is an MMORPG that lets you run your own server, so there would be a better selection of places to play, more oppurtunities to customize it. Games where players can put their own stuff in it and host it themselves are more fun to me, I dunno why.
