Recording with the best sound quality possible?

Right now I record with a Y cord from the back of my mixer's RCA's to the mini AUX jack on my computer. My computer just runs an Intel Integrated sound card, nothing special. I am not sure how good the quality of this actually is.. What achieves the best sound quality? Right now I am looking at the Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX, or the RolandED UA-30 Audio Canvas USB interface. Also, do the 1/4" outputs on mixers differ in quality from the RCA's? Thanks for any help.

I would get rid of that intel sound card fast as hell!!
Platinum is a alright semi-proffesional sound card...don`t know so much about it though. 96khz limit is nice..

Yea limit 96khz.....

hinestly....you get what u pay for... so get what you CAN pay for, if you've got the money, get whatever's more expensive, but try to avoid having too many cables and wires invovlved.

what does a 96khz limit mean? Sorry people, Im not familiar with all these sample rates and bits ect.

the pic in your sig is a broken link

and the sample rate means how many separate samples (snapshots of sound data) are in ....a second I think (bitrate refers to the quality of the separate snapshots)

44100 hz (or 44,1 khz) is CD quality

so you can imagine 96000 hz is like recording studio quality that surpasses for instance DAT. And the differrence between CD quality is hardly hearable (it might be thru good headphones or good monitors, i.e. even cleaner signal, less noise, more nuances in sound. Dunno tho).

i was going to ask a similar question. I just upgraded my computer and i am going to need to buy a new soundcard as my motherboard wont support my old one.

This site has lots of reviews, but so many of the soundcards are REALLY expensive. I will be principally be using the card for games and playing my Midi Keyboard. I will not be using it for production.

Any suggestions on what cards would represent best value for money for what I will use it for.
