Everyone was born with a DJ name and that name is your own. Be proud of what your parents gave you!
Anyways, I'm Julian, been spinning since 2000. I offer new DJs records to borrow to help them get started.
My advice for starting out? Keep recording your mixes and listening to them. You can hear both your mistakes and good mixes. You will start getting a knack for what tracks go together, when/how to bring in tracks during mixes and definitely helps a lot with the flow of sets when you listen to its entirety.
And as I always mention, when live in the mix, don't touch the platter. PITCH SLIDE.
And I can always be reached via MSN: [email protected]

The difference is when you're live in the mix and both tracks are coming out of the speakers.. you will hear the correction with the pitch bend. Yes this is sometimes quicker but it's very noticeable in mixes especially when synths are considered. The pitch slide allows for smooth transitions without that bend in sound. When executed properly and consistently, the discerning ear would find it harder to notice any pitch corrections.
