Who exactly needs to hold more than two garage sales in one year anyways? They must have a lot of junk to sell.

IMHO garage sales are annoying for neighbours. Put your shit up on ebay and call it a day.

I think that's the point. They're trying to cut down on people running a business selling "junk" and calling it garage sales. I bet no one claims capital gains from any profit they make selling crap at garage sales ... let alone PST/GST.

That being said, I think its a stupid rule, that will be next to impossible to enforce. I can't even imagine a squad of by-law officers hunting down all the neighbourhood garage sales, making sure everyone registered. I wonder how many billion a garage sale registry would cost?

Who needs more than 2 garage sales anyways? The law is good... if you were to have garage sales every week, you're not cleaning out your garage, it's a business, so you should be taxed.

I have actually been to a yard sale on a Saturday selling an old bookshelf I threw out on Tuesday with my garbage.

I'll bet it's just like the parking enforcement where neighbours will be the ones snitching. In Mississauga they don't come out unless someone calls on neighbourhood streets.

But the parking enforcement officers can actually prove you are illegally parked. The by-law officers here won't be able to prove that you've already had two garage sales this year unless they were at those ones too. So the neighbours will have to go to court to prove all this ... over a $500 fine?

besides, they are eye sores half the time, face it if you don't want it that means its the most useless or ugly crap you have, I'm not a big fan of seeing on peoples lawns every weekend. I compare to my place in Louisiana where my next door neighbour has a rusted out bus on his front lawn just because he can. Why would he pay to have it towed and thrown out if he can just pull a for sale sign on it and hope someone 20 years from now will want a rust covered gutted bus.

I hate having my Canadian neighbours flyer my house every single weekend... yeah I know you're having a garage sale, you've had one every week for your arts and crafts crap all summer long and your punk kid tries to sell me over priced craptastic lemonade every weekend too.

Seriously, not everything preposed by a politition (other then harper... you like him right?) is an aweful invasion on your freedom. You need to look at things a little deeper, there are very good reasons for limiting this type of activity.... some of which have been mentioned.
