Shame / Disagreement Just Another NYC Day..

So I'm in a car, gettin a ride from a friend from my workplace to penn station (nyc) around 515 today...weather's nice, streets are crowded and the music in the car is bumpin'...

we get a half block away from the station and get caught at a light so i tell my friend that im just gonna walk across the street so i get out, and after i take two steps on the sidewalk i hear..

cop (in plain clothes) - "place your hands on the truck (parked on street next to sidewalk), spread your legs and dont move "

me: "umm...what's goin on?"
cop: "do u understand english, i said dont move, dont speak until i say so...why did u get out of that car so quickly?"
me: "im goin to the station to catch a train home.."
cop: "do you know that car has an expired registration??"
me:"umm..no its my friend's car, sorry.."

he then proceeds to ask me where i work (including the street address), where i commute from, how old i am...oh and he asks me to open up my bag and take out everything, then takes a look at my license and promptly says.."ok sorry about the holdup, you're free to go. we ran the plates on the car a few blocks back, saw that the registration was expired and then thought you were running from something."

Yeah, I don't understand NYC cops.

I said "Hello" to one, and he just gave me a dirty look. It wasn't even a sarcastic "Hello", it was polite and sincere.

Maybe he was just having a bad day.

The embodiment of ignorance and stereotyping. I'm sure your parents are extremely proud of you.

I love you, Mikey.

Seriously... why would you say hello to someone in NYC? Saying Hello is indirectly telling the person 'fuck you'... but telling someone 'hey ******' is the equivalent of saying 'hello'.

i never really run into problems with the police in the city. the only problem i had was when i got a beer ticket for drinking a beer in a paperbag in the street. it was really annoying b/c i was taking my last sip and then throwing it into the garbage, when she pulled me aside. and it wasnt even a ticket that i had to pay money- i had to go to court a month later. never had to pay any money, but i had to go to a 'quality of life' class with other people that did stupid things that NYC loves to give tickets for. it was annoying and i was on some sort of probation for 6 months then it was wiped off my records.

all for drinking a beer outside of the chemical brothers show on the street

Sounds a lot like the cops in my town. Except that they're less bright and hardly ever to be found outside of the downtown area. Guess I should be fortunate enough for that.
