because i was trying to watch wedding crashers and it was runnign slow.. so i uninstalled DIV X actually and i think that uninstalled direct X as well.

It made wedding crashers run smoothly on media player but i guess it removed the audio for direct x (cause youtube doesnt work)

i usually use mplayer to view these things (cause it has stand alone codecs)

but now when i want to use some mainstream software (like youtube)imhaving these problems

I cant reinstall direct x because it didnt uninstall properly (there must be a glitch i the uninstall) so when i try to reinstall it it says the install is complete (i know its not, but i can see where its comming from because the dll files are there) can i just delete these dll files? and try reinstalling again? or will that fuck everythign up?

oh dang, I had a similar directx problem. I couldnt fix it so I ended up formating everything . That option could save you a lot of trouble.

Try a google search for removing direct x, I bet there are a few people that have had the same problem.

Also I don't know if this will be any good but sometimes I've had problems with removing stuff fully from my pc and then it not letting you reinstall and I got this program called crap cleaner which solved it.

Its removes unused foleders, files and stuff and is a good spyware tool too.

If you've not already got it could be worth a try and do a scan for issues.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Good luck, I know what its like to have to do a reformat

Ill take a look at that program.. ive already found a couple of programs that say they will remove direct X but you ahve to pay for them to do the full job which is wierd. i tried installing an old version that didnt work (it just said that direct x was alerady installed didnt prompt me saying do you want to install this even though its older)

Is it possible to remove certain files from the system32 directory? i want to know if anyone has tried this out and also cleaning the registry

Seems strange you have to pay for a program just to do that

Never tried messing with the system32 directory so cant help with that.

Also worth mentioning is a place where I go to get help when I have pc problems is http://pcpitstop.ibforums.com/

I've just looked there and the forum is down till midnight so if you don't solve it wait a bit and ask there, alot of people that know their stuff and probably could be of better help.

This will fix the problem. XP ships with DirectX 8.1 as ppart of the OS. DirectX 9 has a habit of not installing correctly if you have Anti-Virus Running, or if you are doing the install with the online installer on a dial up connection.

To remove DirectX Do the following:
Start > Run > regedit
Browse to and remove the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX

Don't delete any of the other folders or your PC wont work.

Restart your computer and if you did above, DirectX 9 will be gone, and XP will have reinstalled 8.1 in the background on restart.

Confirm by doing the following:

Start > Run > dxdiag

This will open your directx diagnostic tool, containing a wealth of info. On the first tab, down the bottom it will tell your your directx version. Should now say DirectX 8.1

Now:

1st - Uninstall your current DirectX 9.0x by the way mentioned before, or use a program called DirectX Eradicator.

2nd - Close all Antivirus Programs.

3rd - Make sure that you have DirectX 9.0 and DirectX 9.0c setup files.
replace two files : "dsetup32.dll" & "DSETUP.dll" of directx 9.0c setup files by two samename files of directx 9.0 (overwrite them)

4th - Run setup directx 9.0c
