Thumbs down MLS Soccer

I'm watching the Chivas USA at LA Galaxy game. How incredibly boring! I can't believe MLS is this slow...the players are literally jogging across the field. It's like watching a bunch of retards trying to fuck a doorknob out there.

MLS blows. The weird ball was cool for the first year, but that's all it ever had going for it. Their only shot was to keep Freddy Adu, but he's gone now, too.

my rant about US and MLS "soccer" from another forum:

Right kiddies you all know how much I have a distaste for US soccer and especially the league called Major League Soccer (the name it self makes no sense). Now this isnt going to be a long essay of me complaining and making fun its going to be a fun look at a way to fix it:

MLS:
1. Switch your schedule to a fall->spring schedule like Fifa recomended. This will put it against NFL(which will hurt but only the begining of the season), NBA & NHL. NBA & NHL both get horrid ratings during the season and are in serious slumps and looking for their new identity. Perfect for the MLS to take advantage of.

2. Playoffs FUCK OFF. Really its a joke there is no playoff system in any top division and shouldnt be.

3. Apparently there is a FA Cup/Coppa Italia type tournament that goes along with it which I really like.

4. MLS should let the teams take care of themselves. The league currently handles transfers abroad and monopolizes the system (Landon Donovan failure back to the US was a huge scandal not brought to attention)

5. Draft...WTF...this is getting way to american. Clubs should set up youth divisions and bring players up that way just like europe. The draft is ridiculous but its for the college kids but those kids should belong to a club before going to college anyway theres the solution.

6. The stadium thing has been fixed and bravo to that

7. It seems to me they try to compare themselves to the leagues of europe. COME ON....the MLS should figure out what the deal is. The reason football is so popular is because frankly its the only sport the country has. The US is different in that way. MLS and soccer will never take over Baseball or Football anytime soon so it should try to compete with the leagues of South America. Entering into the Copa Libertadores is key and why they dont is beyond me.

8. Stop buying old players and bringing them here. Youri but I hare he has been good but really who wants to see him. That goes for pottential moves of Zidane, Becks, Ronaldo and the rest to America. I think they should retire in peace rather then going for that last paycheck from the MLS. But if they want to do it be my guest its just rediculous and demining.

9. All Star games please stop this. No one really is interested in any of the professional sports all star games so be the first to combat it and you may bet more fans.

now onto the US National Team:

1. Please enter into Copa America. Why you guys dont is stupid.

2. The approach where everyone is against you bla bla is reatarted and probably gets more people to hate you. Most of the world knows your know highly competitve.

3. The 30 friendlies a year is ridiculous. Cut down on that pronto its really unfair to the rest of the world (imagine if you were Brazil and they had 30 friendlies a year to gel together) and I realize that sometimes the friendlies are only the MLS players playing together but still thats no excuse.

4. Why are all the big games in LA. I know thats the newest stadium or whatever and also the biggest mexican location and soccer is quite popular there but still doesnt make sense. Set up the national HQ in DC the capital of the US like other national teams do.

5. Your rivalry against Mexico is great keep it up it actually has made me watch a few of your matches. Which brings me to another point that you cant help for the most part. Your region is so shitty man! Barbados, Guatemala, CANADA! wow If you want more viewers keep scheduling friendlies against Holland, England etc

That is all....alot of potential for "soccer" to become a relative big spot not the top but just as competitive as South America and the shitty parts of europe.

1. They'd get KILLED, plus there's that whole weather thing (unless you wanna make it indoor soccer, which, personally, I think would have a better chance in the U.S.).

2. All American team sports have playoffs. We like playoffs. To do away with playoffs, you need enough pride for people to care who wins, just for the sake of doing well. It's not popular enough for that. You need flukes.

3. idk what you're talking about.

4. Agreed.

5. You don't seem to have a great grasp on the cultural/societal difference. There's already enough controversy over the existance of training academies like the one I went to where you have school half the day & sports training for the rest of it. Nobody's gonna be go with signing kids any time soon.

6. True. I know from living in Chicago that nobody cared one bit about the fkin Fire 'til they let them play in Soldier Field. Then people started to notice, even if it was just because of the inconvenience of the traffic jams for games. We'll see if the new one they're building helps at all.

7. They're delusional. I don't know enough to agree or disagree with you on which league they should deal with, but comparing themselves to clubs made up of the best players from national teams who destroy ours is just laughable.

8. Nothing you can do about that. It's a good draw.

9. We like All Star games. It's a way of keeping tabs of who's good and who isn't for people who don't really pay attention (aka everyone in the US)

1. idk

2. That's just a fact you can't argue with. Nobody hated us when we sucked, 'cuz it was a good laugh. The fact that we even have a chance now means that they have to at least think about taking us seriously which means they can hate instead of mock.

3. idk

4. That's just dumb. Nobody really lives in D.C. except people involved in government & politics or poor people. There are 26 cities in the U.S. with more inhabitants than Washington D.C. How many other countries have a national capitol with so few people, compared to its other cities? The fact that our President lives there doesn't mean it'll make a successful sports venue.

5. Completely agree. I only started watching our games instead of other countries' because of the U.S./Mexico thing. We do need to play better teams. That's why we can't do anything in the World Cup (except for the time before this one)--we're not used to playing that way against those guys. It's not like Guatemala is going to go anywhere in the WC, so if we want to, we need to be able to compare ourselves to somebody who can.

I like soccer, I wish it would catch on here, but I doubt it will. The NFL is so incredibly powerful & well-run & established that it's gonna take a loooooooooong time to turn things around. As somebody pointed out to me, the big difference is that our best athletes get put into football, baseball, & occasionally basketball when they're kids. In other countries, the best athletes all get put into soccer.

Thats cool man I agree and disagree on your points

One thing that has come about after the World Cup is this Conmebol(south american football fed)/Concacaf(north american football fed). They both should join together. Conmebol ppl will be hesitent I think but can see the profit they can make for having USA/Canada/Mexico in their qualfying matches. Concacaf has some of the worst countries in its fed (puerto rico/barbados/etc) really has to be fixed. Something needs to be fixed in concacaf and this thought is a pipe dream....Fifa wants it according to a news story a while ago I read but not sure its top of their agenda but it would be profitable for them so maybe

yeah, somehow I kinda doubt that finding better people for the U.S. & Canada to play is at the top of their agenda.

yes although they are desperate to make "soccer" popular in america

I really think a America's federation would help meaning USA would play qualifiers against Brazil/Argentina....make it much more exciting for the US fan as they all treat Brazilians as "gods"
