Considering the only TAs to go to Tech Itch also went to Sydney Blu, I'll consolidate the reviews for both events into one:
TECHNICAL.ITCH:
WOOOOW. Got in at 12, and the party was already rocking. D-Syfa vs. Illfingas played some tiiiiight shit. Layering like 3 tracks over one another...puuure instanity.
Then Technical Itch ripped the place apart. Track of the whole night was definitely 'Dylan & Limewax - Cleansed By A Nightmare'. He must have mixed that track in like 5 times, and the crowd went nuts for it every time. Ohhh man, it was just so banging and dark. Honestly, Abstract, you guys rock (and I want your fucking T-shirt). This event was the pinnacle of DNB for me. This was right up there with the Pendulum and Andy C sets that I've seen. Sometimes he got too industrial, but other times the basslines were just PURE HARD SEX. I just wish Mark got more into his sets - if he would have been rocking out behind the decks, and not just be a DNB version of Digweed, the energy in that room would have been even more insane. But I guess the tradeoff was that his mixing and distortions were all completely on point and nicely polished. some tracks I remember:
Dylan & Limewax - Cleansed By A Nightmare
Vicious Circle - Welcome to Shanktown
Technical Itch - Death Jazz
Technical Itch - Retribution
Capital J started off really strong too, but his set lacked the heavy bass of Tech Itch, plus we had to leave to get rest for the morning.
And HOLY VIRGIN MARY that sound system. WOOOOWWW I've never heard DNB hit me so hard yet be so crisp. And the lack of lights just felt so right for the music that was being played. I had beyond a wicked time. MORE DNB AT COZO PLEEEAASSEEE.
One note: the crowd. Wasn't really sketchy at all, but there were a lot of young girls there. Like 15 years old. I was really surprised. All Ages usually don't bring THAT MANY kids out. But I dunno, everybody was just rocking out, it wasn't too packed, and I had no problems with anyone.
One more note: they didn't search us at all on the way in, and CAMERAS WERE ALLOWED. I saw a few people taking pics. Weird.
SYDNEY.BLU:
It's hard to say where I stand on how good it was musically. It was moving me, but the House builds just don't do anything for me, not like the DNB or Trance builds do. Music was good, but nothing made me go, "Oh shiit I'm going to lose my mind now". It was just fun dancing along with everyone.
Speaking of which, CoZo is terrible for meet & greets, because you have no idea who you're greeting until you hear their voice. English Rachel got it the worst I think. It slipped my mind that you'd be there, so when I see some blonde girl run towards me and give me a huge hug, I turned to Sasha, and gave him this look that said "Who the fuck is this girl?". But it's all good we got it sorted out. It was awesome hanging out with you all. Too many people to name, so I won't bother.
Oh, and it was a lot more sketch at Sydney than it was at Tech Itch. In the 2 hours I was there, I ran into a lot more sketchies than I did the whole time I was there for DNB. And it was a lot more packed and stuffy.
I had an awesome time at both, but the DNB was far better all around. CoZo is a wicked club, and a lot of the stuff I've heard about it is a bit exaggerated. I just wish they'd play my kind of music there more often.
P.S. I don't want to take off both my CZ wristbands. The two of them together on my arm feel like a medal of valor or something, lol.
