I was bidding on a shirt and after 13 bids in the last half hour, I decided to bid $25.00, taking the lead. The bid before that was $21.50. Here's the weird thing. I won the bid. But, after clicking on the "total amount" button, it shows that I only owe $21.50 + $5.00 shipping. Shouldn't it be $25.00 + $5.00 shipping??
This is my second account with eBay. The first time I was scammed buying a vinyl from a guy in Germany and I had to close down both my PayPal and eBay accounts. Unless there has been a change in the way people bid now, is this accurate? Shouldn't I be paying $30.00 in total instead of $26.50?

Well, what happened is the current bid was probably 21 bucks. You can do what is called a max bid. You don't have to do anything except enter the max you will pay when you place the bid. The item will go up in increments if others are bidding on it until it reaches your max bid.

That makes more sense. Maybe I'm wrong, but in 2003 I won an auction on a cologne set thingy I wanted, and it totaled $31.00 plus i think it was like $8 for shipping. I thought I'd placed the max bid for $31.00 and therefore made my total at $39.00 after i won. Then again it's been a couple of years since i went eBaying and I probably forgot the routine.

proxy bidding (max bids) don't include shipping.

Yea but once you're in "My eBay" it'll show you the link to the page that sums up your total with the sellers requested shipping amount. That's, of course, after you win the bid.
