Can someone explain the phrase "call the shots" / "calling the shots" to me, along with an example of usage?

Call the shots = to make the decisions.

My boss calls all the fucking shots around here, e.g.

the same as making the decisions, or being in charge.

"the manager is calling the shots at this restaurant."
"the president calls all the shots when it comes to diplomacy." or something like that.

Calling shot's means being the boss making the decisions.

Usage could be I suppose.

Paula - I decided to change that revised billing procedure we looked into I circulated it to the sales reps yesterday.

John - Paula I appreicate you coving for me in my absence, however I would of liked to of looked things over one last time, after all I'm the one calls the shots around here. Now pull your knickers up your dirty slag get in the kitchen and make me a cuppa.

In the States there is a popular drinking game where a particular person (whom we refer to as "bitch") hands his credit card to the bartender and opens a tab, and then his friends take turns ordering 3 drinks for him on his own tab, and he is required to drink them. Whomever is ordering the "bitch" around at that particular moment is "calling the shots", but they'd better remember what they made them drink once they become "bitch". Whoever can go the most rounds wins.
