Torsten Fassbender's Book (The Trance Experience)

I was just curious to know if any of you guys have heard of Torsten Fassbender's Book (The Trance Experience). It seems like an outstanding book and it comes with 6 DVD's. If so any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I don't own it and haven't gone through all the tutorials, but I have flipped through it and read some of the chapters so I can say that it's a good book to learn more about production if you've already dabbled in it. It comes with demo software to get you through the tutorial "classes" and shows you how to do a lot of stuff to achieve good results.

The only thing that I don't like about the book is that is doesn't go far into the "why" part of most of the applications. It will give you 6 or 7 steps to do something and not say why you're doing them. It just says to do them.

Aside from that, it's still a good book if you're at the level for it to be beneficial. For people that have been doing it long enough, it's pretty redundant.

I have a lot of the software that he talks about. I have the waves Diamond bundle and run Sonar 6 application. I feel that I got some pretty powerful tools but, I just don't know how to properly use them. I understand some of the techniques and I have been reading other books (Rick Snowman's, The Dance Music Manual). I would recomend this book to anyone. Thanks for the info.

Thanks guys for the info. I ran into another book that looks even better. Ever heard of, Production Mixing Mastering with Waves, Third Edition by: Anthony Eqizzi? Looks like it is more in depth. Tell me what you think is better if you know about it or have read it.

Thanks

Hi!

I have bought both of em. And i really like em both. The Mixing and Mastering with Waves is for all contemporary music genres while Trance experience is only for trance. And as said in another post the books are mostly intended for beginners. But hey thats me!

Here is what Ive learnt from Trance experience

*Proper Sidechaining with Waves in Cubase
*Designing my own Kick from scratch
*Bass layering
*Some arranging ideas
*Proper FX use for different categories of sounds with sends and inserts and "what goes where" (Alot of this)
*Some basic mastering ideas
*Setting up a nice template in Cubase
*Levels
*Automation

* I need more DSP power! So i bougth myself an UAD-1 but im gonna need another one pretty soon

Its also nice to be able to run the full sessions included on the cds with FX presets and all. But bear in mind those require lots of CPU. Tried em with a 1.8 GHz and failed. Recently bought a X2 3800+ and now it runs like a charm.

I now regulary use the provided waves presets or something similar to them in my UAD plugs, and tweak em abit for my own productions with better results than I had before reading the book.

Can really recommend the UAD by the way, sounds really nice especially the LA-2A, Pultec, Plate 140, Realverb and Cambridge EQ.

If u plan to produce other music than trance then buy mixing and Mastering with Waves. Otherwise I would recommend to buy The Trance experience. Or maybe buy em both

And yes I know u could find basically the same info in threads in this forum but I find it quite handy to have it put in print with nice pictures and ready to use presets.

If u have any more questions about em just ask!

Cheers

Seems a little over waves-focused to me, besides why listen to a producer that only makes crappy cheese dance.

Hey Thanks. I went to the website for Mastering with waves and on there you can download the waves presets for free. They even have updated sessions for useres that already have the c.d.'s but I was able to download those to! There was some missing audio but I was able to get the general idea and besides the updated version was for people who already have the book and c.d's. This gave me more of an incentive to buy the product. Thanks...

Cause the CHEESE inspired the good stuff maybe?

Yes, agreed.
I am luckily an owner of the Platinum Waves bundle already... but if i had to install the 14 day demos and work with the book as much as possible before the demos expire, I'd be pretty pissed off.

I have to say that just opening the provided sessions offered endless amounts of knowledge / insight though before i ever even cracked the book open.
