sander van doorn @ axis

axis, boston

i'll upload pics later. i don't have my digital cam set up right now.

all in all it was a good SET. he really knows what music to put on. i can say that for sure.

sander was unique in the fact that he was not much of a signer. i did not want anything signed but i saw him sign at least 2 things WHILE performing and at the end of the night, none. he took o requests and only about 4 people wanted a song request. he probably signed 3 more things. i saw two people trying to get their cd signed by them but that didn't happen. what was really funny about it was less than ten people were in line to get something signed or take a pic with him at the end of the night and i think only 3 got their pic taken with him.

i mean svd was REALLY ready to go right at the end of his set. he took pics with the other opening djs that were on the stage and then put on his coat and packed up ready to leave.

in ALL of the shows i've been to, i've seen the djs sign outrageous amountsof things and take so many pics with so many people and there were less than 150-200 people or so at the club and a good estimate of less than 50 wanted something signed/a song request/a pic taken. less than half got what they wanted, lmao.

now i don't know if it was because axis had stricter policies on djs signin or taking pics with people, but one of the opening djs lied to me and my friend (and most likely some other people) and said he was gonna take pics. i felt bad because y friend really wanted the pic. it's funny too because there were about 4 opening djs, and half of them were using their "status" as if they were the shit. well...yeah.

yeah I don't see any trancey night in boston that isn't Armin, Ferry, Tiesto, or PVD at Avalon being very busy. Trance was very popular and widespread throughout the clubs in Boston back in the 98-01 era when it was more fresh Axis regularly had Oakenfold/PVD/Nick Warren/Sasha and Digweed (When they played mostly trancey stuff)@ Chrome nights. It's just not the scene anymore in Boston. Trance djs aren't booked anywhere else other than Avalon in the city minus a few locals here and there at certain places.I was at this night and it was downright boring at times. I liked his new production "Grasshopper" and a few of the tunes that SVD played earlier in the set but overall it was quite monotonous and some of those breakdowns are so melodramatic and cheesy. I had alot more fun at Porterhouse @ Rise Friday night

There was only two opening djs btw. It's not their choice as to whether or not SVD wants to hang around and sign autographs/pictures or whatever. It's a thursday night with a less than packed crowd so I dont blame him for wanting to get right out of there especially considering he had a big gig at Pacha the next night

yeah i suppose you're right about those types of djs having much more busy nights. it seems that they are more mainstream than someone like svd, kyau and albert, ozgur can, etc. and that's kind of annoying when they keep recycling those types of djs and we don't see other djs around here that are good/excellent but not mainstream. i was definitely happy that svd came to boston, no doubt. i was just very surpised to see the night so empty. i figured he was getting popular more and more so i expected a crowded night.

maybe there will be a mob of people in the boston clubs by the end of this year or next year for svd.

as for the two djs opening, i wasn't sure because there were about 3 and at some other points, 4 or 5 ther men on the "stage" with svd. one of them said he was supposed to drive him home (i don't know if he was joking or not, lmao)

yeah some of the music round the end of the night got on my nerves...especially the one with all the yelling in the song. i think the atmosphere kind of messed up the time there. it would have been a little better if he performed at avalon i think. i agee when you said it was boring at some points. if i realized the rest of te night was going the same pace, i would have left with my friend when he did, lol.

where is pacha? far away?

I can't wait to see him in San Francisco this summer. No doubt the place will be packed. His first NOrth American appearance was in San Francisco last year and the club wasn't overcrowded but there was a good turnout, this time when he comes, I'm sure the place would be sold out.

I guess that must have been because of the club's policy?

Check out what he wrote in his newsletter about the USA sets:

quote:
February arrived and it was over the Atlantic to the U S of A. My first set was on Thursday night at ID in Boston with Dave Ralph, it was the first Thursday night they ever did and we had a great party. From there I played at Pasha in NYC, it was my first time in the Big Apple and the city blew me away, although not half as blown away by the response to my set, thanks guys! Some clubbers travelled for up to 8 hours to see me for which I am always grateful for, I’m always more than happy to stick around when I’m finished, so a big hello to everyone I met that night. I then went to Vision in Chicago which again was another amazing night, the club was packed and I played for over three hours, enjoying every minute!

So either he's lying and isn't always grateful to stick around when he's finished or it was indeed because of the club.

thanks ionstorm for that peice of info

yeah, i'm not sure if it was the club policy... he took about maximum 5 pics that night.

hopefully he takes some notes from his fellow djs in being more fan friendly. ALSO with taking requests, lol. this was the first time i have seen a dj not take requests (and it was NOWHERE near crowded, lol).

i'm definitely not mad at him for not wanting to take pics. no one HAS to take pics with anyone, but the fact that he told one of the opening djs he would take a pic with my friend (and probably a few more others) later in the night (and never did) and then seemed reluctant to take pics with others at the end of the night is a little odd. maybe i'm just too used to seeing other djs do the opposite. he didn't seem to be in a bad mood or anything , but maybe he just had his own personal reasons...

and sstranger, i do think it will be a good turnout as it seems he is only getting more and more popular for sure.
