I take it you mean as in network them. Well go down to pc world, or maplins, etc and get some network cards, nice and fast, and ask the peeps there what cable you should use. Get the rj45 network cards, and the rj45 cable, i think it is that anyway. Fast connection.
Do you both wanna play over the net, and only connect to one lien, if so Windows ME does it, and i assume win 2k should. It should be under connection sharing. Just follow the guidlines
Other wise it is fairly simple

ya Couuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup
...if u can afford it, buy a couple of network cards (should be pretty cheap - around $25 aussie dollars...so not sure what that is in pounds, about $15 USD tho)
and then just a crossover cable to connect the two computers
...later, if u want u can get a hub or switch to connect more computers together, with more network cards & cables too of course
if u really want to do a serial connection (very very very slow!!) you can pick up a serial cable from any computer store and just link via a spare com port (the ones the old mouses used, or even extenal modems, if they're not usb)...then i'm not sure about other windows, but i know in 95 & 98 there was a control panel or network option for "direct connection"...where it will create a network connection over serial cables...the cable should be very cheap...but personally i'd recommend splashing out for some network cards (much faster xfer & more useful if u intend to expand later)
if u have 2k/me/xp i'd expect they should be able to do it too...i have 2k, and it's just in the "make new connection"...you can also use parallel cables (i remember they were named after a program/utility i think...which would do the same as a serial cable, but being parallel...worked much faster with xfer!)...so if you can find one of these, get it over the serial one!
for both serial/parallel & network (lan)...you'll have to have the computers in the same house/room tho...so i'm not sure if that's what u want...limited by the lenght of the cables of course
otherwise, i'd say you're stuck with using the internet to play games 'cos i don't think you can create a dial-up connection with cable
gl Coupy!!!
