TA Remix Competition #9
Looks like it's that time again.
I've been trying to think of a suitable song to remix for a while, advantages and disadvantages of certain songs etc....some ones I considered were Airscape - Sosei , and Hybrid - Finished Symphony.
However, I've decided to choose Chicane - Halcyon, for a number of reasons:
1. No remixes that I'm aware of.
2. Although it's a great track, it is quite dated in sound now, so some new remixes of it would be welcomed.
3. The melody is quite complex and layered, so will give a lot of scope for creativity.
Here is a link to the Midi:

RULES
I'll just copy and paste some information from the previous remix competition:
| quote: | | "Genre: This is tranceaddict, so please place your remixes somewhere at least in the electronica genre. Trance is preferred, but feel free to span out into the the harder, chiller, deeper, more progressive, or breakbeat versions of it. No rock or jazz or anything please." |
I take from that to mean that any type of dance remix is fine, though I would think that downtempo/chillout remixes would be discouraged...
MARKS/SCORES
| quote: | Judges will qualify in scores from 1 to 10, the following 4 categories.
Creativity: I think this is not needed to be explained, no brainer knows what this category covers.
Overall Sound: You don't have to be an engineer (if you are, you have more advantage tho) to make it sound decent, judges will look for clarity in the song, clipping, humming , excess of high frequencies , drowning, all of this will be taken under consideration.
Melody: How remixers interprets the main melody and news melodies implemented, if they are harmonious or not etc.
Arrangement: Structure of the track, if they are Dj Friendly or not, if it lacks of drive etc. |
Referring to the above, I remember last time there was a little confusion about the creativity criteria. Some people felt that in a remix, to emulate the sound of (for example) the lead instrument is perfectly OK and desirable, while others felt it showed a lack of creativity.
My opinion is that creativity can come from all areas of the track, and I can't see anyone being penalised for trying to recreate the lead sound.
PARTICPANTS / TO BE UPDATED
Currently I have no plans to limit the amount of people entering, as there are likely to be dropouts anyway. Although if people could state whether they wish to compete or not, and I can add a list here and update as needed.
PRIZES
www.emasters.co.uk have offered a free master of a track to the winner, worth 60 pounds.
Marcus Schossow|Under sun|Progresia has offered to announce the winning track on his radioshow, and play it out at his next gig.
He has also promised to personally send the track to Armin as well.
More prizes to follow!
SUBMISSION
Send your finished remixes to [email protected]
State your artist name, and a link to where you have uploaded the remix (sendspace/yousendit etc or your own webspace)
MP3's should be 192kbps or more.
DEADLINE
I think 3 months would be long enough, so the final date for submission will be the 14th September. I don't plan for any extensions to the deadline, as I think that just ends up pissing people off who bothered to finish it in time.
Anyway, keep checking this thread for updates, and GOOD LUCK!
