i learned the regular position and my coffin is set up as regular.. but when i mix live we use my friend's tables because they are newer (not that it makes a difference cos techs will never die) and they always set up in battle position but its not a big deal.. so you have to reach a little farther, this really shouldn't affect your abilities so don't worry about it

I first learned how to mix in regular position. But as I was inspired to scratch and do some hip hop.. i am too lazy to change my turntable positions when I practice trance. So i've been working with the battle position for a while. Reaching for the slider is not that big of a deal unless you're one of those few who get irked by the smallest things in the world :thumb:

yea... battle position is used for the scratch DJ's who do a lot of scratchiing!

i had my decks in battle position for a while, to save space in my dorm room...

the plus side is that its easy to cue up and manipulate the vinyl, because the tonearm is outta the way.

the downside is the pitch is far to reach. I have it back in conventional style, cuz I like to reach my pitch, and i have nimble hands that won't hit the tonearm. I try to teach my girlfriend how to beatmatch and stuff, and she always knocks the tonearm when she cue's up. hehe..

Battle position is when the tables are sideways and the pitch fader is farthest from you. I learned in the regular position, and I find that to be the easiest, and when spinnin trance(which you should be ) it makes it much easier to have the pitch fader closet to you. But with DJing, you do it the way that makes you comfortable and works best for you.

I think you can set them to battle position and have the pitch slider vertically instaed of the horizonally.

Errr... No you can't. By definition, battle position means the turntable is turned 90 degrees counter-clockwise, so the pitch control and tonearm are at the top, and are horizontal.

Pitch slider on the top? Man that's going to make things so much harder than it already is already, isn't it? I mean, you will really have to be careful not to knock on the tonearm. In club conditions that could be costly..

Scorchio is right in a way. You can get decks that are designed to go in the battle position but have a vertical pitch slider. I believe Vestax make these decks.
