(about the confusion in review thread, i guess it was the grip that makes the xti look bigger)
the panasonic lumix models are very good units from my first hand experience, but they're still not close to the canon P&S's powershot SD550 is a bomb, i think i might buy the display model from work in a few months, either that or the S3IS (12x Optical zoom + IS crazyness).
also, look into the canon SD800 IS. if you dont mind going a little bit bulkier and going to rechargeable AA's instead of li-ion batteries, check out the Canon A630 with vari angle screen, or the a640 if you need the 10 Megapixels, which no one really does.
