if you had a virus on, it possibly might have deleted some files which are needed for the card to work properly...try re-installing the drivers and maybe try the restore points (if you had that auto backup thingie in windows on)

The virus could have damaged you windows registry thus making it seem as if the card is broken, but it is incredibly unlikely that the virus has been able to physically damage the sound card.
You could try one of those reg fix programs but personally when my registry has been altertered with negative effects (i.e. not by programs that are meant to change the reg etc.), I prefer to do a clean install of windows - it will rule out any other future problems with the virus / windows.
But really, dump that crappy soundcard. It's not meant for producing music - it's for playing games and general multimedia. If you want to get serious, use this problem with you soundcard to upgrade, (but still do the windows format).

To disbelievers, it is possible for viruses to actually harm hardware, though I admittedly haven't heard of a sound card being fried specifically.
About 4 years ago I had to replace my whole computer because a particularly nasty virus disabled the fan, overworked the processor, overloaded the ram or something of that nature - I'm not sure exactly, but upon opening the box, there was a whole heap of shit literally melted inside.
