Review: Sultan & Sharam @ Red Lite - Feb 16th 2008

ok where do i start? maybe i should begin by saying that sharam played well. yes, i am saying it hehehe! the cheese was really to a minimal guys, no joke...he was playing techno, straight up...his mixing was pretty spot on; maybe a few off mixes and one major fuck up when the music stopped completely...prolly cuz the cd was scratched or something...anyways it was really good, can't deny i was dancing most of the time he was playing...and then sultan came on...and the shit hit the fan in the bestest of ways...

my goddddd let me tell you guys that i don't miss sultan whenever he plays in MTL or surrounding cities, haven't missed him in over 1.5 years and I have a pretty good idea as to what he plays overall whatever the setting he happens to be playing in...the melodic banging progginess and epic breakdowns he's known for were absolutely nowhere near those speakers this morning as he took a turn towards an almost glitched-out, chugging techno-inspired prog. really, a sheer refreshment...i could barely ID any tracks. i had the HUGEST smile on my face from 8am-1015am, when he closed things up with SNM - Aya (original mix) and did his encore with Sultan & Ned Shepard - One Day ( Miss Nine remix)...the crowd was begging for more. A++++ performance, as usual...respect

now, about red lite itself. been over 3 years since i went to that club and nothing's really changed. i was expecting many many many super tanned, big breasted women in booty shorts and tanktops and tons of beefed up guys bigger than life but what i saw was a mix of asian, italian, french and a few arabs...all of whom produced a really odd vibe in the room. it seemed to me like the crowd was quite unresponsive, like they didn't know what they were hearing. and nobody seemed too excited about sharam himself, even though the room was properly filled up during his entire set. i couldn't help compare the room to stereo's which i know has waaaayyyyy more charisma than red lite's house room. all in all, i really liked the room, the layout, the lights, the sound system, everything was awesome and OMGGGGGGGGG plzzzzz stereo peeps, follow red lite's example and get yourselves a slushie machine ...$4 for a massive slush vs. $5 for water LOL...smoothies should be considered as well

a HUGE thank you to sultan, maher, ned, sharam, michael, mikey, alex k, alexandra, annie, d-formation (yeah, he came out!)...i had such an awesome time with all of you!!! the energy in that booth was fantastic and i rly couldn't have asked for a better morning. cheers

Nice review.

I was surprised when you told me that Sharam played well!

Sultan, heh, it's a no brainer that HE did well.
