Hi all, my friend who lives in America has given me his cellphone number, but i dont understand how to text to it? I no how to text England from abroad, say my cell number (this isnt it) would look summit like this - 07855 158657, the UK country code is +44, so to message me aborad i would take away the 0, to equal 447855 158657.
My friends number looks summit like this 234-456-5676, he lives in America, so how would u message it?
Many thanks, coup

umm a couple of things:
1. can he receive text messages? the USA is kinda behind the rest of the world when it comes to cell phone technology.. they praise SMS as the greatest stuff since sliced bread NOW.. Sprint PCS still does not have it!!
2. if he is with one of the providers, that do support SMS (there are a few) messaging him depends on your phone/ service;
while I can message people in Germany just fine, i have a problem sending SMS to hong Kong for example! My service does not support it!
If you have a nokia phone you can use the 'feature' of being able to put '+' into your phone numbers, that would take care of the international exit code for you.. then the US country code (01).. then his number..
so you'd have something like this:
+01 234 456 5676
That has free sms too the rest of the world. It may work in america, but as u say america is behind, so it may bnopt be able to recieve txts.
But most sms sites will send a txt anywhere in the world, as long as you know the number and prefix
sms-es sent by this site will not be accepted by dutch providers as they want ppl to upgrade their own sms-amount on their phones...do I make sense?

i know that my phone can only recieve text messages from other Verizon customers, so what you are trying to do may be a lost cause.
The US is a LONG way behind with text messaging...

Add a 1 in front of his number, then send it. It should work no prob.

Is Verizon a GSM-based company? If not, then obviuosly it can't. But if it is GSM, then it can recieve SMS's from other GSM operators.

use ICQ
or, find out who is his provider, go to their website, they usually have a place where you can send out msgs, otherwise, most providers are not connected together on one network so you cant send someone a msg who's with att, for example, and you are with verizon

i think only AT&T and Voicestream are GSM based cell-phone providers in the US..
I hate my cell phone there.. it is the SAME 'series' as i in Germany, but with the same battery, i get like 4x the standby time in Germany, and i have 202130823750124015013 more features
