Enigma has got to be one of the best bands ever alongside with Massive Attack.
The atmosphere their songs create is amazing. Lyrics are just too good, brilliant.
Listening to them gives me chills, literally.
...
I look into the mirror
See myself, I'm over me
I need space for my desires
Have to dive into my fantasies
I know as soon as I'll arrive
Everything is possible
'Cause no one has to hide
Beyond the invisible
Sajaja bramani totari ta, raitata raitata, radu ridu raitata, rota
Close your eyes
Just feel and realize
It is real and not a dream
I'm in you and you're in me
It is time
To break the chains of life
If you follow you will see
What's beyond reality
Ne irascaris domine
Ne ultra memineris iniquitatis
Ecce civitas sancti facta est deserta
Sion deserta facta est
Ierusalem desolata est
Domus sanctificationis tuae et gloriae tuae

Indeed it is.

Procedamus in pace
In nomine Christi, Amen
Cum angelis et pueris
fideles inveniamur
Attollite portas, principes, vestras
et elevamini, portae aeternales
et introibit rex gloriae
Qius est iste Rex glorie?
Sade dit moi
Sade donne moi
Procedamus in pace
In nomine Christi, Amen
Sade dit moi
qu'est ce que tu vas chercher?
Le bien par le mal
La vertu par le vice
Sade dit moi pourquoi l' 'evangile du mal?
Quelle est ta religion ou` sont tes fide'les?
Si tu es contre Dieu, tu es contre l'homme
Sade dit moi pourquoi le sang pour le plaisir?
Le plaisir sans l'amour?
N'y a t'il plus de sentiment dans le culte de l'homme ?
Sade es-tu diabolique ou divin?
Sade dit moi
Hosanna
Sade donne moi

Hosanna
Sade donne moi
Hosanna
In nomine Christi, Amen

The good Enigma stuff is very convincing, but the rest of the time it sounds like the fake, coffee-table spirituality, insulting ethnic crap it actually is. Much like most world-beat.

Heh.
I just think it's kind of cheesy.

Well, yeah. Grabbing a load of disembodied instruments and samples and throwing them together in the hope that the listener will glaze over and think of exotic places is a pretty cheesy formula. World-beat is the stuff white, middle-class new age people listen to while lighting incense and doing yoga. My mother listens to Enigma.

The chanting indians/pseudo-spirtual/world/eagles/dolphins etc thing is quite cheesy, yes. Not really the most thrilling music. The first two albums are good for what they are. I've listened to them quite a few times, not recently though.

Enigma has some good stuff. A lot of bad stuff too. It's relaxing music. What about Enya? She's similar right. Has some beautiful stuff.

I do love most of The Cross of Changes. The bit in I Love You, I'll Kill You where it changes gear makes the hairs on my neck stand up, every time. Shame that by the end of the album it's dissolved into daft "Man is the dream of the dolphin" bullshit. I always get a come-down feeling with that album. For the first five or six tracks you really get into it, then as the album gets more and more stupid you come down from your "chants are fucking epic" high and have a horrible feeling of shame over what you're listening to.
