sidechain help ?

I understand the theory behind sidechining and understand the desired effect it creates. but i have no clue how to do it

oim using cubase 4, can any one help ?

i suggest this... try to make it sound fat without sidechaining, then apply the sidechain to give the bottom end just that much more pumpin and punchin sound.

I use a free vst which seems to work ok. It's called sidekick.

http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/download.asp?ID=86 (think this is the link - I downloaded ages ago).

You need to load the vst as an insert into both the source and destination channels. The source (e.g. kick) outputs to a virtual channel and you select the virtual channel from the sidekick on the destination.

Give it a go. THere are probably better ones but this will help with the concept.

Here is one plug I like to use for sidechaining, it works a little differently in that you must use midi notes to trigger it but, it sounds great if you learn to use it right. I use it inside Live and it works for me, you just need to learn how to route your midi to its input.
