Umm....my first question to you is..."why the fuck are you going to Detroit to vacation?" Is this some sort of joke?

Check buffalo... usually the same types of cheap prices and its a shorter drive from toronto.
Agreed though that toronto flights are robbery

well of course buffalo is the first thought, they're definitely a great option when traveling within the US, but for mexico, they don't tend to have direct flights, and detroit was a better deal.

u dont get direct flights but the price is right and the drive is cheaper (1.5 hours instead of almost 4 each way).
I also like buffalo airport because u can check in and be in the waiting area by the gate in less than 15 mins.
Weigh the better deal in detroit against $1.25 litre gas to get there and im sure buffalo will be about the same price if not cheaper plus you dont necissarly need a hotel room in buffalo!
I went to windsor when gas was cheaper and it was about $80 round trip in gas. Probably 100 these days. Buffalo will probably cost 30-35
Also parking in buffalo is only 40-60 bucks per week! Cheap as far as airports go

well i'm not arguing that buffalo is usually a good deal all around. Especially when compared to Toronto...but take these prices
Toronto = $1584
Detroit = $1200
Buffalo = $1410
plus my gf has a toyota echo, so gas won't be too brutal. probably $50r/t for gas. (a full tank should do it)
and since we have to factor in a hotel ($125 for the sheraton airport which includes 8 days of parking, so thats pretty good)
add that up and you're still only looking at around $1280-90pp...to make the deal even sweeter, the detroit and buffalo prices are actually for 8nights opposed to the typical 7night packages here.

I did read the post, and I just read it again. The way you word the first post, it really sounds like you're asking about vacations in detroit. You should have been more clear (i.e. flying out of detroit).
Also...if you're flying out of Detroit, make sure you're working in travel cost to get there. $120ish round trip for the train (to Windsor, plus crossing the border). $100 roughly in gas, plus toll and paying to leave your car there...whereas maybe you could get a ride to the airport if you're leaving from the GTA.
