Rapture has very good envelopes and it has 6 elements - sorta like 6 full-featured synths strapped together. Each element has its own oscillators, envelopes, filters, LFOs, step generators, etc. and a kickass effects section. It will easily do what you're looking for and much more.

But, I guess the real question is, why not just buy Absynth if it does what you're looking for?

while i'm not a huge fan of absynth 4, i find that there is nothing like it. it came with komplete or i would not have bought it.

rapture is a very cool synth, i don't use it nearly enough

just get komplete... i know it's effin pricey, but... it's amazing...

you get 4 top vsti synths (absynth, massive, fm8, and pro-53) and reaktor... along with other cool stuff that i almost never use, like grand piano

I can sit down all day changing presets and playing random melodies with Absynth 4. But when it comes to actual tracks I find it 1) distracting & 2) I just never use it.

And yeh Rapture is great, but I still find myself using the older synths like Pro-53 or Albino.

Massive, Pro-53, FM8, and Albino are great synths, but their envelope generators are not as advanced as Absynth's or Rapture's, which is what the OP seems to be looking for. I'd venture to say that Rapture's EGs are among, if not the, most advanced on the market. You can essentially add as many nodes to an envelope as you want, shape them however you want, define your sustain point, loop them (!), and combine them with per-element step generators and/or the global step generators. Combine all that with its seemingly unlimited modulation options (130 sources, 150 destinations!) and you can start to see that it easily crushes most of the VA synths on the market in terms of features and programmability, and even rivals some of the modulars.

If you have Rapture and are just using it as a preset player, I encourage you to drag out the manual and spend some serious time under the hood. Better yet, get Simon Cann's 'Cakewalk Synths: From Presets to Power User' book - it includes a chapter dedicated to programming each Cakewalk synth (including a huge chapter on Rapture) and two additional downloadable Rapture sound design chapters with accompanying patch files. Spend a Saturday afternoon with it and you'll know the synth inside and out. OK, enough Rapture fanboy talk.

BTW, Reaktor is another synth that the OP may want to seriously consider - if that doesn't get the job done, nothing will.

oh i do create my patches in rapture and absynth 4... i also mess around with existing presets... but i'm a creature of habit... so i'm always opening up albino, crono, adventus, minimoog v and more and more these days, massive and fm8 (fm7 used to be my synth of choice, so i think the fm8 is easy to create with)

for complex atmospheres, you can't beat absynth 4... or even 3, maybe even 2... or even the first one (which when it came out, blew my mind, and my pentium 2 processor)

if i use absynth 4, it's usually in a layered pad capacity... to add some flavor to my main pad (often times created in rhino *under rated and not talked about nearly enough*)

i have an older version of absynth i use it a lot and i love it i mainly use it for atmospheres and stuff .My main question is has any other vst came out that was like absynth ,so ill download rapture demo and try it out.
