Connecting Mixer to PC

Okay so I just bought a Vestax VMC-004 Mixer and I have been using Virtual DJ since January and finally am trying to move to the more physical part of DJing, but currently, I wont have CDJ's till probably the end of September. So for now, I want to use my mixer externally for my computer. I have already bought a RCA to Stereo jack for my computer which is plugged in to my Master Out, but I can't seem to get my mixer to work on my computer yet. I'm using an onboard sound card (w/ my stereo connector plugged into the Line In -- black) with a Bose Companion 3 speaker system. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You're going to need a soundcard with multiple outputs.

I think you have it setup backwards. You would want to plug the 1/8th inch connector from the output of your soundcard to a line input on your mixer. Granted, you will not be able to output multiple channels separately from your computer without a soundcard with multiple outputs.

Damn, I'll try that when I get home. Do you have any soundcards you would recommend for a two-channel setup? I really appreciate the help, Polt!

OK, I'm just glancing over their webpage now... (which you probably should have done...) and it looks like under the "SETTINGS -> OUTPUT" menu, you can select "EXTERNAL MIXER" if your card supports it. If you dont see that option, you'll need a card that will. Chances are if you have a 5.1 onboard sound, that should be good enough to route 2 channels through. (works in other programs... Traktor and such) Youll just need 2 3.5mm to stereo RCA cables to go from the outs on your card to the mixer.

OH... and here is the program's wiki page...
HERE

You should get to know your software.

Not true. I run traktor with my basic onboard 5.1 soundcard routed to 2 decks... realtek or some crap like that. Works great.

this maya44usb that youre refering to msz, thats an external sound card that plugs up through your usb??? maybe its just me guessing, but its just a basic sound card of sort that connects externally that allows you to run multiple sound outputs through your computer? if so, then you saved my non hip-hop lovin ass! whenever i play out most of the crowd here wants hip hop club stuff and i sneak in techno/trance anthems and slip in some of my records every now and then, but i dont really dig mixing hip hop, and dislike having to use my cd tables (records feel so much more controlled for me). so with a program such as mix meister studio and with the addition of this maya44 sound care thing, i could cheat around having to mix the hip hop on the fly like that.... i would love to be able to do that. just curious i guess if its a stand alone sound card that connects externally or dows your built in sound card need the options to support it???? am i makin sense?

its external and self supported via USB. It DOES act as a soundcard so you dont need jack shit in your computer although you will probably have one attached to your motherboard.

4 MONO ins

4 MONO outs

= 2 stereo ins, 2 stereo outs.

Use Line-in and youre pretty good to go with a quick trip to the software settings to make sure you set, channel 1 for input 1/2 and channel 2 for 3/4. (outs)
