What's that bullet that can pierce the engine of a car? When my dad worked at Stewart & Stevenson in the late 70's, they practiced shooting at targets and said that he once fired a "Magnum" in which the bullet pierced the car's engine.

Well, theoretically a .223 round can. But a .357 magnum most definitely can. There is also .50 cal that is capable of doing so. Many rounds these days have the ft/s to pierce most metals.
