Can't forget the opening battle scene in Saving Private Ryan...Ugh..Omaha Beach must of been a slaughterhouse...it's said that even the ones doing the killing go insane with every man they strike down. If I was one of the those German MG42 gunners, I wouldn't be able to handle it.

Omaha Beach was definitely a terrific scene. The movie, in whole, is beautiful, but the opening scene's strong direction of first-person camera work (bouncing below the water ) and outright nihilism ("mama!", or the portion where the doctor's miracle patient gets shot in the head by a stray bullet) really showed the gratuity of war. Bravo!
