Xone 92 set up

Hi,

Question for you.

I'm trying to hook my Xone 92 up to my system and at the moment I have it hooked up through the Rec Out as i don't have any TRS or XLR cables.

Will the sound coming out of the 92 be affected by using the rec out and not the mix1 mix2 outs? Or is the sound coming out of the rec out the same as the other Mix1 and Mix2 outputs?

Here's an image of the back of the Xone 92

Thanks lads,
Steven

I *think* the rec out is the same, just bypasses any gains... so I think it's the most accurate/unaffected output... I could DEF be wrong on this, though...

Here is some more info from the manual in case it makes any sense to anyone.

RECORD output. RCA phono. This provides
a music only output not affected by the main mix
fader. Connect to a stereo recorder such as MD,
DAT or cassette to record the show. Use CABLE A
with or without adapters, or a custom cable,
depending on the recorder connector type.

And the other outputs:

MIX 1 output. Balanced XLR. This is the main
output that feeds the house PA system. Plug into
the house processor/amplifier system using
balanced CABLE D or E . It is not usual for
unbalanced equipment to be used here.

MIX 2 output. Impedance balanced TRS
jacks. This is an additional output that can feed the
house PA system or other remote audio system.
Plug into the house processor/amplifier system
using balanced CABLE C or F . It is not usual for
unbalanced equipment to be used here.

I'm just wondering if the other outputs (Mix 1 and 2) will sound any different to the rec out??

Cheers mate,

To be honest, I'm just a little confused as I have a JBL EON 10" monitor and I used to have a Vstax PCV 275 hooked up to this.

It sounded great. Good detail with nice low bass (as much as you can expect from a 10" Driver.

Anyway, I've since hooked up my Xone to it and it's not hitting the lows quite as nice as the Vestax was.

The highs are also a lot harsher to me. I've had to turn down the highs on the mixer on numerous occasions because it was just too shrill..

I'm confused as i'm not sure why the low end isn't kicking in as much...

I might hook my Vestax up again to see if it's just my ears.

I had to do the same thing before I got my XLR cables to hook up to my KRKs.

Quality seemed same as before/after switching the outputs to me...

Hmmm.. That's disappointing.

It's odd, When i hook the mixer up to my surround sound system with independent subwoofer the system seems fine. Hook it up to the JBL Eon and the low end seems to soften up massively.

Something that didn't happen with my vestax.

Is the Frequency curve just different or something?

Another question.

When swapping mixers, does it take you a while to adapt to the new mixer? As I'm finding it quite difficult to get my mixes nice and smooth. Dunno if it's the cueing system or what but i feel like I'm learning all over again. Weird to say the least..

You need to get used to your Xone 92. Because it's quality is much higher, you're now gonna notice stuff that wasn't there before. The Rec Out and the Master Out should be the same. Like someone posted, it just bypass the master gain.

That's what I was telling myself but the amount of tweaking I've had to do with the EQ's is insane..

I dunno if it's just me but the top end really does seem Very bright to me.

I suppose I'm extra sensitive to all the high ends as I'm always scared of fucking up my ears with small amounts of tinnitus already creeping in. (don't worry I do turn it down and I own earplugs).

I wasn't expecting any of this to be honest.
I thought you jump on to other mixers and it takes you the guts of 20 minutes to familiarise yourself.

???

Thanks for the adaptor link Shuni. Been looking round for them recently but they're tricky to find. Will have to take a drive around today to try and find them.

Not only that, commonly it is attenuated by about 6dB, this is to avoid clipping on the recording device. Mixing 2 tracks generally takes the volume above 0dB (max +6dB) if you set the gain for tracks to peak at 0dB.

You should be able to find it easy in any audio/visual store.
