I have a desktop computer I built myself for music production only. I've got an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 for my soundcard with RCA's going to a pair of KRK Rokit5 speakers. There's a constant buzzing sound in my speakers, worse in the left one than the right one. Anyonw know what is causing this or how to get rid of it? Thanks in advance!

Try swapping the audio cables round.

Could be a lot of reasons.

Start by looking a this article, it should give you some things to try:

What I had to do was run the unbalanced outputs from the 2496 into a mixer and then run the balanced outputs from the mixer into the monitors. I can still hear the buzz in the headphones if I cue that channel, but not over the monitors.

Fuck this - you don't balanced I/O to avoid humming - something else is wrong.

First, move the 2496 to a PCI slot that is the furthest away from any other PCI components.

Next, are you using those cheap RCA cables that come free with anything (thin black ones with red white premoulded RCA connectors). Well, they're shit. Try some others.

Next, run the cables straight from the soundcard, away from any other cables, especially power cables and certainly nowhere near the PSU unit for the computer or the power leads that go in to the monitors.

Finally, make sure your monitors and PC are not on the same power strip. In fact it's best to have your audio equipment from a different wall socket if you can help it. Better than that, have your PC and audio equipment powered by a power conditioner.

YOU DON'T NEED A NEW SOUNDCARD...unless you just want one that is....

i have the same problem i discovered its my PC making the problems. caus when i use the mac mini i dont have that problem almost at all.
but how can i make my PC stop making noise? better powersupply or what? its a DIY comp.

Good call. I'm using good quality gold plated RCA cables, not shit ones, but I bet you're right about the power cables being near eachother. I'll try all this on the weekend when I have some time.
