On the slickdeals.net forums and main page, there are quite often very good deals for Dell PCs and such. A lot of the time, it'll be cheaper than building it yourself. And for a studio computer, all you should care about is CPU, RAM, loudness (quiet fans).
But the advantage of building it yourself is you're absolutely sure of what's in it, there's nothing you don't need, and you can build it to be quiet.
I recommend a quad core CPU. There are oct core CPUs coming out; they'll be expensive but very poweful.... maybe even... too powerful.
