Tips on vocal eliminating

Hi guys so i have been messing the whole evening with one song from which i wanted to leave only vocals. I tried things like phase canceling (read it somewhere) but some things are really hard to get for me. it seemed to me that i fulfilled all the steps of the process correctly but it didnt work. Maybe you have your own way of removing a vocal?

From the first post on the Music Production FAQ:

Questions you will never have answered on this forum:

1. How do I rip a [vocal / drumloop / other element] from a track?
You don't. You can't. There is an article here that explains in detail the challenges behind eliminating the vocals from tracks to create a "dub" - the exact same principles apply to "extracting" the vocals from a track to obtain an acapella. And of course, these principles apply equally well to other elements of a track, not just the vocals.

In any event, bootlegs are a violation of copyright law and are therefore not supported by forum members and owners, and not to be discussed on this site. Please and thank you.

Do you have both the version with, and without the vocals? Then you might have a shot.
Still, the result will undeniably be less than stellar.

edit: Nevermind.

What he said.

If you have an exact copy of an instrumental yeah go for it, but id quit now if not. If been there and you wont get good results.

As beyer said you could with an instrumental. As long as its an exact copy of of the vocal version. Theres a video on you tube which shows how to do it, I cant find it though. Its not hard at all.

this isn't really good enough. vocals take up a lot of headroom in a mix, so you can guarantee that an instrumental has been mastered differently. the results will always be shit.

That true, its something not even bothering to try. But the you tube video was quite good, so that was my only reason for recommending it.

Unfortunately i do not have an instrumental version. Nor do i need to get good results, what i want is just this vocal, be it wet or dry. the way im wotking now is just i have simply worked over frequencies, removed lows and his and left with more or less pretty satisfying result. But i dont want any other frequencies, only that vocal.
I have also heard that the resluts won't be good because the vocal version is compressed way more than an instrumental one.

OK well you know what you want i guess, but even though you have kind of isolated the vocal you will still have some of the track in there and then the more you tweak the less quality of vocal you get. There are loads of ways of trying to isolate the vocal online using diff software/techniques but none of them really give anything workable. But i guess it depends how clear you need them about how you use them in the track.

That isnt the link. The guy takes a vocal track and phase cancels it out with an instrumental, im sure anyway.
