Do you really need sidechain to create that sound for trance. i downloaded sonar 8 demo to try it out for its sidechain capabilities but not too happy with it ,considering going back to my previous older sequencer ,but has anyone made a professional tune without sidechain post a samle and let us know how you created the sound without sidechain. (that ducking sound)

automate the level? use a saw-form lfo on amp with bpmsync. easy. i do it efects sometimes. i rarely use sidechain much except if the bass and kick is ruining stuff for each other.

No you dont need sidechain, approximately all tracks before 2003 did not have sidechain.

Ugh. It's just an effect that helps make sure the kick can still be heard in the mix. If you can't or don't want to use it, you just have to mix the track accordingly. But choosing to not use just for the hell of it would make you a douche. If it will give the sound you desire, use it. Otherwise, don't. It's that simple.

all kidding aside, you don't need sidechain, you can always EQ if stuff is clashing with stuff, but if you want the pumpy feeling go sidechian.

I produce progressive house and trance, and I don't use sidechain. If you like that pumping sound from sidechaining, then use it. I don't really think it's necessary though. Like said here already, the main reason sidechain was used in the first place was to make it so the kick and bass could be heard clearly. That can be accomplished in other ways, with good kick and bass selection, a little compression, and sometimes EQing. It might be a matter of style though, I don't want a booming kick in my tunes, I like them low and deep. Sidechain is not mandatory for trance. In fact, it seems kind of old school to me. Also, seems to sometimes be used as an easy fix for a colliding bass and kick.

Listen to Icone's material. Apparently he doesn't use any sidechain method at all in his productions. It sounds professional too.

Sidechain is not necessary if you know properly eq, I like to use it in lots of stuff, but i gone experimental and in this track I made I decided not to use sidechain:
