Trent Reznor: "...time to make NIN disappear for a while.'

...and there's a good chance he's going to wrap things up alongside Jane's Addiction:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/mus...-reznor-sa.html

quote:
A small consolation to those not seeing Jane's Addiction at the Echo tonight: It sounds like you'll get another shot to see the original lineup.

But here's the catch: It will probably be on a much bigger stage, and it may be the last time you see Trent Reznor -- at least for a while. Reznor posted today on the official Nine Inch Nails website that he's plotting a major world tour, with Jane's Addiction as a co-headliner.

After the outing, which will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Nine Inch Nails' debut, "Pretty Hate Machine," Reznor writes it will be "time to make NIN disappear for a while." While Reznor doesn't offer too many details as to why the time is ripe for a hiatus, he notes that 2008's "Lights in the Sky" tour was the "culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed."

A proposed tour with Jane's, he writes, would be "much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted." He promises further details soon, and credits Jane's Addiction for giving Nine Inch Nails one of the act's first big breaks.

What is it with TA's token neocons having nothing but praise for Trent?

I certainly wouldn't describe his music as 'liberal' or something like that, but his work is quite subversive, especially Year Zero.

this type of thing is par for the course when your main demographic starts to age.

I like NIN, they are one of the only bands that make this kind of music that does not come off as try to hard to me.

Not to mention that fact that Trent himself is getting older. He used to live like a true rockstar - just like Manson - only Trent made it out with his sanity.

He's sort of lost his fire though, and that's only natural. Not to say that his recent music isn't great, but it is different from his older work because he is no longer a frustrated 20-something spitting bile on stage.

and that type of schtick does not translate with age as well as a bowie for example.

you can bet your bottom dollar, that he will "bowie up" (lose the gimmicks and base his career on being a quintessential professional aka produce lots behind the scenes) and continue his career.

Completely agreed. And yeah, Bowie didn't age at all, he matured like a fine wine. Outside is by far my favourite album of his, but even his early work is excellent..

//Perhaps he will be like Eno to Bowie and just act as a band-aid or a muse to other artists. Trent's work is so refined because he lives music. His shows almost always open with an artist he takes a personal interest in, and he's done the muse thing before. I know I am mentioning Manson a lot in this thread, but he is sort of an important figure at this point because he's "stolen" Jeordie White for his latest album. That's sort of huge. Trent and Manson made Antichrist Superstar probably the most incendiary album of the 1990s before their falling out. To see them work together again would be a pipedream at this point, but a dream nevertheless. To see Trent work with a lot of other artists - especially some of his openers such as Ladytron - would be immense.

Bowie made more money not putting his name on tracks , than he did putting his name on tracks. Considering that his own music was enough to make him disgustingly rich, i think that speaks volumes on just how talented Bowie is. He is definitely one of my idols.

Yeah, Bowie is basically the most perfect music idol there ever was.

Except for that time you got to see his dong. That sucked.
