Don't get me wrong I love harsh stuff, but sometimes a bit of the sugar is good. Especially when you want to relax.
I was half joking about the 1990 to 1994 thing, but seriously some of the seminal ambient albums that really defined modern ambient came out during that time. If not the best music, at least some of the most defining.

if you are going to make a bold claim like more defining, usually backing it up with reasons helps a bit..especially if the statement is totally untrue.

Those three albums are probably some of the most defining for the genre, and all came out between 1990 and 1994. Tetsu Inoue and Pete Namlook also had their first albums out during those years.
I'd include Stars of the Lid's first album, in 1995 as well too.
Of course there are older examples, as well as new, but a lot of the really big releases came out in those years. There are dozens of other lesser names and one offs that came out during that time too.
