There have been a whole bunch of threads about subtractive synths and how to use them, but very few about FM synthesis. So this is the place to show your appreciation for FM and your favorite FM synths, give tips, and share patches or sounds you've made.

FM synthesis is great. i love FM8 as it's very flexible and even allows to do subtractive synthesis.

the real advantage of FM is that you can change the timbre of a sound perfect to your taste and allows to do very creative effects aswell.

FM is so versatile, I love it.
Making it to add slight distortion or modulating it with an LFO can get you some amazing results!

Honestly, I don't know enough from FM.

I use it frequently for draft2design alike sounds, bells, crazy effects and percussion, but I don't know what the heck I'm doing most of the time, then again, I'm using thor and subtractor and not a genuine FM synth.

That's one thing I wish Reason had, a nice FM synth. I love using NI's FM7, though.

i havent tried it much but doesnt thor have a pretty good FM? atleast if u multiple it.

I think he meant it would be great if reason had a dedicated fm synth.

that's not really FM. this FM things on subtractive synths is just the basic form of frequency modulation and can't be compared with a real fm synth.

FM synthesis is basically the most powerful form of synthesis ever and FM8 is proof. the amount of timbres you can replicate in an FM synth is astonishing and it all goes back to the basics of what FM synthesis is... multiplicatave sine waves I bought a book on FM synthesis a few years back, i'll see if i can find the title... its buried in these moving boxes.
