I'm not using Reason anymore, though. I understand what you're saying about recording on top of the rest of your track. I can do that in Acid, but it's not a perfect solution. I want everything to be perfectly in-time.

Oh I get it. You want the midi data to play the instrument for me while it's recording? I'm not sure how to do that, though.

Why aren't you recording straight in to acid? That way you're matching it to the bpm of the target track. You can also use a click track in acid to get you're timing right, as well as record the midi and edit that after to play back you're part in perfect quantisation.
AFAIK, all the plugins that you use should also be available to work in acid.

why dont u try to write down your melody directly in the sequencer? or are u using arpegiator?
