PERC (Perc Trax, Drumcode, Kompakt // London, UK)

From his earliest demos to his current position as a key figure in the
global techno scene, *Perc* (aka Ali Wells, www.myspace.com/perctrax) has
taken past and present music formulas and twisted them into something new
and fresh. His releases on Kompakt, which include "Up" and "Headphone Heart"
(which showed his versatility, mixing industrial-strength percussion with a
haunting flute melody, a combination that on paper should never work but
somehow came together under Perc's crafty production), were lodged in the
record boxes of Richie Hawtin, Luciano, Chris Liebing, Slam, John Digweed,
Green Velvet, and Steve Lawler, among many others, for months. His
"Sticklebrick" EP on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label made him the first
non-Swedish artist to release on the label in seven years and showed that he
could produce to a standard equal to the world’s best. In 2008 Ali released
"Serious Moonlight" on Chris Liebing’s CLR label, and added a single "Work
Harder" to the growing list of tracks he has already released on his own
Perc Trax label. He also enjoys a residency at Phil Kieran’s Kranc night in
Belfast. This success has made Perc an in-demand remixer for the likes of
such world-class artists as Trentemoller, James Holden, DJ Hell, Phil
Kieran, Jeff Bennett, and many more. As Perc’s profile grows his booking
schedule has become busier with stops all over Europe in addition to tours
in South America and Japan, and upcoming gigs in Mexico, Canada, and
Belgium. Ali made his US debut in New York in late 2007 but now he's
returning for another tour with a very special stop in Music City.
