So I have an appointment this afternoon for corrective eye surgery. I'm not exactly legally blind, but my eyes are bad enough to allow me to be a candidate for LASIK.
Pretty much what they do, is they numb your eyes with eye drops, then slice a little flap on your cornea. They lift your flap and all you can see are lights and shadows, and they shoot a laser in your eye to correct the way that light enters your eye. Then they put the flap back down and shit is blurry until the next day.
Has anyone ever had this type of surgery? I'm not nervous at all, really, I trust the doctors/surgeons to not fuck up my eyes too bad. I'm actually kind of excited about it, no more contacts or glasses! Any advice?
Nah, my boss had it done and she says it's the best thing she ever did
My father and my brother have both had it done, and they said it was a wonderful idea, it worked perfectly and neither have had any vision problems since they had it done. My father actually had it done something like 8 years ago, and his vision is still perfect normally but he needs reading glasses to read shit still
I have not had laser eye surgery, but I have heard that your night vision is not as good after. Can anyone confirm this?

I would like to get it done, but they can only get 80% correction since i have astigmatism. I have contacts and glasses right now. my contacts are pretty useless at night though. I have to wait a bit til the technology improves then i will go for it. no point in doing it if you still have to wear glasses right?

I have both contacts and glasses and also astigmatism but I can't wait to get this done! I hate having to wear one or the other! Does astigmatism actually prevent Lasik from correcting your eyes so you have to continue wearing one something?

I want to get it done but I'm not sure if I'm a candidate. Plus, isn't there a certain age you have to be?

For some, yes, but most this is not the case for the long term. Short term, this is normal.

No. An astigmatism can be corrected.
The only advice I would give anyone, is wait till your mid 20s, when your eyes have stabilized. Always get the "lifetime warranty" that they offer at most places. And do your research.

I think it depends on the severity of it. My optometrist told me that they could only get me fixed to 80% and i would still need glasses. I wear contacts but they only get me up to 80% as well.

No, but see above. Also, the only way you can find out if you are a candidate is if you go in for a consultation. The only limits are corneal thickness.
Also, for anyone contemplating getting LASIK, make sure to get either WaveFront or CustomVue. They both use a special blue laser that reads the inside of your eye and how it processes light.
Oh and avoid the ones that use a Micro Keratome.
