managed to catch his set recently and while he started out crap with lots of trainwrecking, he actually got into it after a while and started playing well and doing a few cool things.
BUT it isn't all that fancy. just a few chigga chigga woos with the turntables and dropping a few vocal samples and chops into his mix.
It basically is to disguise the fact that you cannot mix two completely different songs without using ableton live or something like that.
how he doesn't kill himself having to play daft punk and michael jackson every Fckin set, i don't know.
Compare his style to someone like Justin Long who also plays Serato - fkc. what a difference. (justin Long + mazi playing KING KING 31st JULY as WASTED CHICAGO YOUTH - debut LA performance)
What do you think of the whole serato/30 sec cut style? love it/hate it?

Mashups? I've seen him play once or twice and from what I remember it was a mixture of top 40, hip hop and house.
Works well with a diverse crowd. Don't think an EDM fan really cares for him.
I've seen clips of him djing and he's definitely good at what he does, especially when compared with 98% of hip hop club DJ's. I don't think it makes much sense to compare hip hop/mashup dj's to guys who play techno/house because the music is so different.
matching just to the wave file images? fckin hell. thats unbelieveable.
wonder can the lad (dj am) actually play house or techno?
would be funny if he 'discovers' say fidget and then starts slamming it to the eau-de-cologne-ed 'vip' masses at the posh spots.
or on the flip side - say T*EST* starts playing 30sec cuts of songs and drops michael jackson + daft punk... hahaha
oh its a funnny world we live in...

I remember BPM Mag was championing him as the next big thing a few years back when everyone had that "Hollywood/Paris Hilton/Nicole Ritchie" mania going on.
He certainly hasn't broken very far into the dance scene, but then again who needs to when you are being paid major bucks to DJ at socialite and corporate parties?

AM might not be that big in the die-hard EDM scene, but on the Mashup/Hip Hop Scene AM is KING!!! I'm not a big fan of his style, but he is good at what he does. He certainly is the biggest NON-EDM DJ there is! You can pretty much thank him for bringing the Mashups to the mainstream.

I remember Avalon booking him last year with a (house set) in parenthesis.
Anyone catch that set?
Him and Aoki have a good Sunday night @ LAX in Hollwood. Been going on for a while.
