Just saw that ferry corsten is coming on a Wednesday. Thursday was alright because at least I could leave early or go in late to work on Friday but why the middle of the week? When are we going to get Fridays?

Well, I don't understand it either. I know there are politics involved and money too that makes weekends hard to get. I know a lot of people have morning jobs during the week, but I guess as long as enough people are coming out anyways, things won't change. Maybe if everyone that had to work early didn't show up, they may reconsider.

If the cosmic gate and acosta shows were any indication that Wednesday is sucessful then something is majorly wrong. I think only 100 people showed up on both nights combined.

This horse has been beat to death on every local forum in the US. It comes down to several things. What dates the artist booking agency is willing to offer, how much money local patrons are willing to pay per ticket, and if the club would like to give up their normal weekend crowd.

There is no way an artist like tiesto, pvd etc would ever allow their weekend dates to be used at a club like Opera. It just does not hold enough people for the artist liking.

I have seen enough people complain of high ticket prices for weekday shows like pvd at Opera. You think $35 is bad, how about $65 because thats what it would take (maybe more) just to break even from a sellout opera crowd. Because most artist rates double if not more for the weekend.

On top of that, having one Friday used for electronic music at Opera might run off their normal hiphop/top40 crowd and put that club out of business because they can not make easy money off having cheap DJs play. I am sure many people will say good but then think of how much less talent will come through Atlanta if Opera was not around. As the NYTAs have been disusing and debating (about Pacha and another club), its not in anyones interest to have any club close down no matter how much you might not like it.

Sure Atlanta also has the tabernacle, dreamz, and NATC but I am sure there are tons of other expenses that make using those spaces a nightmare and even more costly. MJ just had 1400 people at NATC and lost money, not because the talent was ultra expense but because is a convertible warehouse type space with no sound, no lights and walls that get put up on a week by week basis. Tabernacle has Ticketmaster and parking fees, I am unsure of dreamz but less people come out to there unless it is something massive like S&D since its not really close to anything.

Your reasoning makes sense, but what about Swerve? That club had plenty of high-profile, affordable EDM events on Fridays!

There's lots of good techno and house artists that come through on fridays / saturdays. This friday is Pheek and saturday is Ramadanman, both at Bazzaar!

Wednesdays suck very much but you will make do if the show is important to you. Thursdays are a shitload better.

Thats bullshit. Look at the weekly lineup for The Mark, and all the local promoters bringing in awesome stuff at Bazzaar, etc. Barely anything is booked at Opera any more. Its painfully obvious that that club is incompatible with EDM...their little Thursday night college nights have shown that. Thats why Liquified stuff is on Wednesday now.

Even the occasional show that is still booked there would be better off almost ANYWHERE. Theres stuff I would consider checking out (like Sasha) were it somewhere without the egos, the shit sound system, and the nazi security force. The fact that Opera is still around and has little competition for big-room stuff is the only thing hurting Atlanta.

Call it bullshit all you want but I can assure you I am correct. My response was not some crusade to glorify Opera. I was simply using Atlanta local club layout as an example. The issue occurs in every major city in the US. Quite honestly, I love my local talent but the local and regional talent is not what sells out a mega club. It is something most people know but just do not want to believe it.

Also, most of the bigger top 10 talent would much rather play at a place like Opera over Bazzaar. If you want to call bullshit to that then step up and contact the booking agency for those DJs and tell them what club you want to bring them to and they will laugh at you.

George Acosta and Cosmic gate were shows that should have probably been at the Mark or Bazzaar but none the less, Opera surely booked them in attempt to make their weekdays more valuable.

Lets also not forget that if Opera closes then all the crowd that went their will have to find another club to go to and I am sure a club that you prefer might decide they want some of the Friday and Saturday crowd from Opera and change up the way they operate to attract them. Their are a lot of people who listen to electronic music that are starting to have an issue with spending money for entry, drinks, and etc where-as the crowd that goes to a top40 or hiphop club love to see how much money they need to spend to get laid. This is why I say no one will benefit from any club closing whatsoever. It creates a major domino effect throughout all clubs when one goes under. You might not see it on your end but it definitely takes place on the back end.

Bazaar, the Mark, Opera, each of those places is of importance and has it's place in Atlanta. Sort of works in synergy to bring a vast amount of talent from all genres spread across your city. The fact you guys have a lay out like that is awesome. We do not have anything remotely close here in charlotte. There is dreamz...but i know the quality of trance shows if held there would be horrid. Their system was extremely bass heavy to the point i was straining to focus on the highs in the songs at s&d. Trance music being that it's based on synth leads would be just awful sounding there...they would have to have a sound engineer redesign everything there if opera closed and the big room talent moved there. But back to the point of this thread...yeah theres a little politics involved when it comes to weekday bookings. Just sucks Opera has booted edm out of thursday to appease the hip hop crowd.

Do you even live in Atlanta? Obviously The Mark/Bazzaar is too small for "bigger top 10 talent"...I was never suggesting that. (also, lol @ Cosmic Gate or Acosta playing at Bazzaar.) However, this "bigger top ten talent" can obviously work at places like NATC (Tiesto) or Dreams (S&D). When they do get booked at Opera, it tends to be a giant sardine can and is miserable even for people that enjoy that music. Yes, it would help if there was a better option for stuff that is too big for The Mark but too small for Dreams or elsewhere. I'm usually not interested in DJs that fall into that category so I don't personally care, but I would probably be more willing to check out stuff I normally wouldn't...because it honestly takes alot for me to step in to Opera. This is why we need wetbar back.

I'm not really sure what your point is, but I'm saying saying that Opera isn't essential for Atlanta's EDM scene. There will always be plenty of talent here...take another look at Liquified's summer/fall lineup and tell me how many events at Opera you see. Hell, even Deadmau5 is at the Masquerade. And by the way, when I say local promoters, I'm talking about people like CUDS/Diagnostik/Heat that bring in INTERNATIONAL talent like Seth Troxler, 2562, Konrad Black, Ryan Elliot, Adultnapper, etc...of course thats not going to sell out a mega club but that is plenty of quality events. Atlanta has a fast growing techno scene and Opera closing would have no effect on.

Also, I'm not worried about douchebags leaving Opera. Douchebags stick to douchebag venues...I'll be sure to catch them next time I'm at Primal or something.
