HD TV Question

I'm currently in the market for a new TV and was wondering if there was a major difference between 1080p and 720p 32" TV? I have done some research and from what I understand the picture isn't that different on TV's under 40" its only when you go above that you notice the improvement. Ill be using it mostly for my xbox.

From what I understand you're correct, the difference between the two in a 32" Tv is negligible.

you need 1080p for the full hd experience, all the other stuff has lower quality, doesnt matter which screen size.

best is to walk into a best buy and look at the tv section.

Size and distance to TV are important. If you're sitting too far away then the difference between 1080p and 720p is unnoticeable. I wouldn't bother with a 1080p 32" TV unless I'm sitting really close to it. That whole "full 1080p HD experience" is a bunch of marketing BS. Get whats right for you. Don't buy into the hype.

i dont think the screen size matters cuz its all about resolution.
1080p is 1920x1080 progressive scan.
720p is 1280x720 progressive scan.
you will notice a difference between the two on any size tv.

no thats not true at all. on a 32" tv you would have to be sitting about 3' away to notice any difference between 720p and 1080p...even assuming perfect vision the human eye just cant make out details that small from further away than that

add to that that almost no xbox games are native 1080p and its moot. i would never buy a 1080p set that small unless you are sitting on top of the tv...save the extra cash and buy a new game for the 360

Thanks for the help, ill save my money and just get a 720p. I didnt think it would make that huge of a difference, and im coming from an old 27" so 720 will be a huge improvement

I saw a Dynex 720p at best buy for $399, now I know its not a name brand tv (its some sort of bestbuy thing) but from the reviews it doesn't seem like a bad tv and for the price I cant go wrong. Anyone here have a Dynex?

Remember, you get what you pay for.

I just picked up a 46" Samsung LCD for $1191 after some price dickering - not a bad deal.

I'd never buy an LG or a Dynex. But that's me.

720p on a 32" looks good enough for me. if you're using xbox, most games only really support up to 720p anyway and going 1080 just reduces the frame rate

if you're going for a TV that's for a living room or at couch distance i'd recommend going for 42".. but 32" is a good desk size for just a few feet away.

the LG TVs are surprisingly good off late. 4 years ago i would never buy LG unless it was a CD/DVD drive or something but i'd go for an LG TV now..

as for dynex, find out who makes it...all the lower priced brands are actually made by big name companies...like benq i think is by sony and if you go to a grocery store, equality, no name etc have their ice cream made by chapmans...it's just a way of them addressing different market segments by price point without tarnishing their brand name
