Pioneer HDJ-2000

This should probably be in the DJ Booth section.....

I'm a bit of a headphone freak and I've owned more than my share (Sony MDR-V700, V900, 7509, Pioneer SE DJ 5000, HDJ-1000, Technics RPDH1200) but I just broke down and bought a pair of the new Pioneer HDJ-2000.

These are without question, the BEST pair of headphones on the market today for DJs. Everything that was ever wrong about a headphone ie plastic joints, cheap padding, weight, size, distortion, have all been corrected by Pioneer. These are absolutely perfect.

I'm well aware that the price tag is a bit steep, but trust me folks, they are worth every penny. I'm so confident in these, that I just gave away a pair of Sonys.

I highly recommend them. Forget about the Allen and heaths. I tried them and although the sound quality was top notch, I guarantee they break at te same spot the Sony mdr v700 always do. They're made of very thin plastic. The pioneers are metal and they feel rock solid without all the unnecessary plastic joints.

I've seen them sold at pssl for like 349 but I got mine at amazon for 249. I never ordered from amazon before but I was very impressed with their customer service.

sweet! ill def look into these headphones. My sony's already broke at the "usual" spot. You should post a review 6 months from now. Hopefully you'll still be happy with your new pioneers!

I also LOVE the sennheisers. The sound quality out of the HD 25's are amazing but I can't stand the way they are made. They are so flimsy and I always felt like those two plastic twigs they called the headband would snap, which actually happened to a friend of mine multiple times. But Sennheiser does have replaceable parts making them a little more user friendly.

The plastic swivel joint above the earpiece on the Sony MDR-V700's have broken on me at least 5 times. Then I send them back to sony to replace that 1 tiny little tubular plastic piece and they have the nerve to charge me $55 every time. I actually asked the service technician if I could have some extra ones so I could change it myself and he flat out said they weren't allowed to do that. Now, if EVERY single owner of these headphones has them crack at the same place, wouldn't it make sense to offer the customer a few extra plastic pieces that cost them a penny to make? I know a lot of people use the Sony's, but comparing them to the pioneers would be like comparing a steaming hot turd to a bowl of ice cream.

Every headphone feels and sounds slightly different and therefore every DJ is gonna use something different. But man, the HDJ-2000's are out of this world. Great design, without any unnecessary parts or joints prone to breaking. And finally, a headphone made from a lightweight metal instead of flimsy plastic.

Oh and speaking of Pioneer products, I finally got to really test drive the CDJ 2000s. Personally, I think these are complete overkill. Don't get me wrong, I loved them and if you're gonna spend $1400 on 1000 MK3s, I'd rather fork over an extra $250 for the 2000s. I played some tracks off a USB stick and yeah it was pretty neat, but there's just something wrong about a DJ showing up to a gig with a USB and "DJing" without the effort of flipping through a music catalog ie CD book or at the very least scrolling through a laptop. If you're gonna be a digital DJ and play MP3s, I don't see the point in getting the 2000's when a laptop can play them just as well. I payed $1700 for my macbook pro while just one CDJ 2000 will run you the same and I can even surf the web with my mac!

Do you guys mangle your headphones??
I've owned the MDR's for 6 years before switching to the Allen & Heath's and I haven't even come close to breaking either.

I respect your professional opinion, no doubt, I just question the negligence on the headphones. Although I'm sure you've travelled much more, and that could have contributed.

Also, do you think the HDJs have superior sound quality over the xd's?

I have them, and absolutely love them. Actually, correction...they are Kerrine's, but I use them like they are mine.

They are by far the best headphones I've used though. The sound quality is obviously perfect, they are light and comfortable as well.

haha, I hear you on the mixer comments. I owned a Xone 62, DJM 600 and Xone 92 all in one Summer. Now I just use my old Denon 4 Channel...and it does the trick.
