so i bought an xbox. Ive been trying to hold back from this purchase as I know i will have no control and just go nuts on this thing. but i gave in.


I bought a an xbox with a modded chip on it. Now it's not banned, but will it get banned if i go online with it? or will it only get banned if i play ripped games online with it? someone clarify this before i waste my money trying to play it online. Thnx.

In all likelihood its already been flagged so the first time you take it online it will be banned. Best to just keep it offline and enjoy all of its capabilities.

There are supposedly some methods with which you can wheck if your xbox is banned without damaging it (like this for instance), but while some say that they've been able to check with no problems, others following the same steps got banned so try at your own risk.


If you really want to play games online your only option right now is an unmodded box with original games, will probably stay that way unless some new firmware comes out that prevents microsoft from seeing if the console has been banned or not.

so what if i take out the mod chip? the dude said hes never gone online with the thing. so if i just put it back to its factory settings i should could be cool then?

ya. Take out the mod chip and go legit. It's the only way you'll get into heaven..or play Halo ODST multiplayer.

if hes really never ever gone online with the thing (which i find a bit suspicious since he was selling it now...the number of used xboxes on the market in the last month has gone up by...well i dont know how much but a few hundred percent for sure since everybody is selling their banned console) you should be good, but if he connected to xbox live even once in the past few months (he didnt have to play an games online, just browsing the live section, downloading updates and such) theres a chance that the console has been flagged.

You could always give that method in the link i posted a try to really make sure.

Also, there are mod chips in the 360s? i have one in the old xbox, but i thought that all modded 360s just needed a dvd firmware patch to play backups and imports.

I would buy 2 360's..one for online play and one to play all the burned stuff...keep that one legit and buy a banned one from ebay for cheap and your good.
