Breaking In Headphone Theory

Dont know if there is another topic like this, if so please delete and ignore.

What are you opinions on breaking in headphones?

I recently became owner of hdj 2000 headphones, at first I thought they were big and the sound wasnt bad, maybe I was so use to the old Rpdj 1200 from technics. The bass on these pioneer seem less than what I expected coming from a really nice put together rp dj1200 headphones except they are a bit heavy.

After about a little less than a week of using both, I feel the the pioneer are coming along almost at the same par if not better than my old headphones. On saturday 2 people told me at first they will feel blah the new hdj 2000 and you would think they are all hype, but after 10-12+ hours of use they will eventually break in to incomparable headphones for optimum use.

I do note that when I bought the technics about 1.5 years ago they dont sound as nice as they do now, before those I owned some sony 7506 and they sounded similar when I first got them, but now the sony 7506 are just horrible compared to these two, I cant not feel the bass well at all, there extremly light and comfortable, but they can not handle sound power for now they are for my IPOD when I am at home, I have heard this from many people that they lack low end seperation.

Well they were the first I have every bought, then I thought they were awsome.

But anything I bought after it you just can not compare, I never really got into how they sound.

Hmmmm. Are you sure you two didn't buy fake 7506s? Not many people speak as lowly about them...... seems odd to me.

I've had 2 pairs of sony headphones. They don't last.

I've had a pair of sens HD280 that's lasted me 3 years now.
They sound just sweet still.
And they have become super comfy.

I once used a pair of 1 year old HDJ1000 that I borrowed from a friend, they where really crap sounding, you had to turn them up so loud to hear anything.

No i just use them and let them break themselves in.

If you want to though, just play some white noise through them for 8 hours or so. Medium volume. Jobs a good'n.

I'd only break speakers in that i'd install in my car etc.. Headphones i don't bother as the diaphragm of the speakers isn't really moving all that much.

just my 2c
