Your questions cover a vast territory with either an infinite supply of pat answers (industry standard VST's: Rob Pappen, Native Instruments, Cakewalk, Sonalksis, Sonitus, Brainworx, et al), an obvious answer (sound design idea forums: here) or an answer which takes away time from what we're doing (check this video out and then tell me how to make X sound).
Eventually, one of us will get around to answering your question on how the pad was developed. Until that time, it might help to remember we get two to five people per week, in this forum, who ask questions on how to achieve artist specific proficiencies but who contribute relatively little. While, at least, one of us will likely endeavor to answer your question, eventually, it might behoove you to realize that terrorizing the locals isn't favorable to obtaining the answer you're looking for - even when we're busting your chops for asking mostly silly questions.

what you are looking for is "hypersaw" on a access virus TI hardware synthesizer. it can be made with any synth using layering and detuned saws, but the "pros" use the virus-synth instead because its easy and sounds ok. audio-demo can be found on www.access-music.de
and heres a terrible tut on how to do it using "synth1" VST (great synth btw): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apziEp6XoD8. liked your track btw, whats pretty funny is that i can hear supersaws in it lol. oh do a search in the stickies for supersaw too lol. the ultimate leadsound for cheese trance.
