....now i dont know if I should go for the Traktor S4 or the Vci-100MK2. I already have the original VCI but this new one comes with a built in sound card....no more luggin the ol' audio interface.

the more i think about it the more id like to test this one out. what software is needed? what other options like this is it? midicontroller+soundcard in one.
edit: seems it ships with traktor LE, so hows does traktor LE work? is it nice? i thought serato was industry standard now?
hm vcm 100 seems like a good idea too.

I think it looks like shit and the fact that it's primarily plastic seems off putting if i were interested in getting a midi controller.
The review from Ean golden on the demo model they had in was far from complimentary and in general the S4 seems like a tighter product. From what i can remember it's under a 100$ more expensive as well and i think you get traktor pro with the S4, or maybe it's just the new software but either way i think the 100 Mk2 falls short of making a good impression.
It's just doesn't impress me and the changes don't warrant the cost imo.

I don't understand why you'd be tempted by something that's received a rather middling review from the site you found it on.

The interface on it looks a little bit more comfortable but judging from the reviews there is no point in it. I would just get the Kontrol S4 if you want a midi player with a soundcard as it's looking really good. I'm actually about to sell my vci-100 so I can buy that when it comes out
Meh, I would just upgrade the original vci-100 with the new 1.4 firmware - has high rest pitch and jog.

I honestly dont care if its plastic or not. I mean its a vci-100 mk2...its not like they named it super brand new vestax interface lol.
This one is a little more tempting vs the S4 ...price wise only....

Fair enough but in my opinion it's a step back as opposed to a step forward which is usually what i expect from a mk2 unit.

For the price, it is not worth it at all. The sound card quality is still unknown, and the whole build looks/feels cheap. I have the VCI-100 SE 1.4 and I'm more than happy. You can also buy a B-stock VCI-100 for a good price and just upgrade it.

Is upgrading the firmware simple? I been wanting to do it but I don't feel comfortable ever opening up anything.
