Just from comments you've made in the last week in DJ Promotion it seems you didn't recognise a huge prog classic like No Other Love, or well established names like Simon Noble, Ian Ossia and Brancaccio & Aisher. When you write about a specific scene you're writing for the die-hard followers, and if you commit such an obvious faux pas you instantly undermine any credibility of being the guy who's informing them. Everyone who gives the slightest shit about prog has Mistiquemusic nailed on their My Labels list on Beatport already. Reviewing their stuff is, in practical terms, just adding to a circle-jerk, however justified the circle might be.
This is why I like writing for a more general electronic music website, because I can review Timewave's album and actually bring it to the attention of several thousand people who haven't already heard about it. I also don't need an encyclopedic knowledgable of dub techno to rave about a new Echospace EP, so I might miss a reference but the majority of my readership will have missed it too.
I expect you to disagree with a lot of what I've just typed, and quite probably turn down my offer too. But I know you'd rather hear it straight, and this is exactly how I see your nascent project. It seems like a waste of your talents to me. |

I'm not at all offended by your comments; I think they're very valid and much appreciated. I'm aware that Mistiquemusic is an obvious label, but that's only the start. In the case of die-hard prog enthusiasts, I'd say there are few as ardent and as encyclopaedic as yourself. And yet, didn't you just come to the website to read an interview?
Yes, perhaps I don't have as firmer grasp on the full history of prog as yourself, but that's the beauty of blogging; it's a highly contemporary medium. It's handy to refer back to old classics and bygone artists to increase your authority, but it's not crucial.
What made you think I don't know No Other Love, anyway? I have a physical copy of The Javelin at home.
