I've posted a couple of tracks on this site over the past month or so, and i have only had a comment from one person in all that time on either of the two tracks.

I used to post on trance.nu and loads of people were really helpful and left feedback - why does no-one do that on this site?

Someone told me that now that trance.nu has shut down, this was a good place to get decent advice and feedback from fellow trance-lovers - from what i have seen so far, no-one can be bothered on this site, and the fellow users here do not seem helpful at all?

Is this fair comment?

Let me guess, you probably posted some proggy trance tracks? Maybe some plucks going on? A real snazzy breakdown?

If your tracks sound like 90% of the other tracks on this forum, why should anyone care enough to comment? I can't count the number of times I come here and listen to a few tracks, and really have nothing to say. It's like, stop making trance like that, for serious. It's boring.

You've got ten posts, on TA, and you're already being ignored? What a sham. Back in the good old days, they really rolled out the red carpet, around here. Now, when people who scarcely post in this forum to begin with, start a thread, its post count is an almost certain goose-egg. There are seven on the forum, currently.

And don't listen to Floyd741. He's simply trolling you and probably part of the reason there are so many threads here without high post counts, including my own. It has nothing to do with the quality of our work. In fact, it's probably because producers are threatened by our immanence and DJ's want to keep us a secret so they either ignore our work or worse, tell everyone we suck so that no one will listen to us.



I mean, I can't be certain, because I haven't heard your work but usually people who complain about not being regarded as highly as they deserve to be, are really quite good.

How many tracks have you commented on? The thing with any production feedback forum is that there is a sort of unwritten give/take policy and it usually takes a while (and many posts) before people will start to notice you and your tracks. If you just post your own songs and don't leave feedback, you'll pretty much guarantee that your songs get pushed off page 1 quickly.

As far as trance.newb goes, my experiences over the years there were quite the opposite. I rarely got much feedback at all, and the only useful feedback I got was from people that I knew from this forum. The comments from the trance.newb regulars were generally pretty useless, misguided, off-point, etc. But, I didn't really care because I rarely posted there - no offense to anyone, but IMO it was by far the most newbish music production forums I've ever witnessed. You'll get far better feedback here IMO, but you have to make yourself known and give people a reason to want to reply to your posts IME.

I disagree. I've used both forums for quite a few years (not so much latley though) .. and must say that trance.nu by far were MUCH better when it came to production promotion and feedback. I had not used this forum for a long time now as a direct resault of that, its only cause t.nu was shut down I've "come back".

Anyways, the trance.nu forum lives on! Its just that not so many people know, so the forum dont have nearly as many users as it had before it went down yet, but it will raise again!! =)

I'm sorry but that is just funny. I was a member at serious-sounds (still am just never login) and feedback was horrific over there. I came to TA mainly for the feedback when I was a newbie, and got a lot of it.
But I didn't just come and leave feedback on a couple tracks. I spent my whole first week here typing long, thoughtful responses on almost ever track that was posted. At the end of week 1 I put like one song up and got 3 pages worth of feedback. So I think this whole give/take thing is what it is. And you need to give likely a little more than you think. You want people to see your name in as many threads as they can, so when they see your name with its own thread, they just feel familiar with you and will leave feedback.

I try and make a point of feeding back every week - and as often as I can and trust me I am very busy with work and home life. I think if we all help one another we all benefit.

Now that's more like it...i can practically feel the passion for the music oozing out of the computer screen whilst reading some parts of those posts!

That's kind of all i was looking for from people on this site.

So fair comment, i will get busy doing some extensive posting on other peoples tracks for a while, and then hopefully they will return the favour by commenting on my tracks when they have got a little more familiar with who i am!

As for the comment that people won't be inclined to comment if the track is shit...that doesn't make any sense, if you listen to a track and think it's shit, then you should take the 10 seconds that it would take to tell the person who did the track that you think it's shit and why - after all, that could be the most useful feedback that a person who is making shit tracks can get - it might push them in a different direction to do something different (and better)!

Surely in any decent forum everyone should take some time to comment on a range of tracks, good, bad or whatever!

On that note, i will listen to some tracks and post more comments - i hope people will return the favour for my tracks!

I've used all sorts of forums, and TA is my favorite. But yes, unless you're active yourself, people aren't going to be active in return.

Also, too many people ask vague questions, like "what do you guys think of this track?"

I've found that if your questions are specific, you'll get the answers you're looking for. Ask instead, what people think of your mixdown, a particular lead sound, or offer your own criticism of your own track, and then ask if people agree or have a different take. As long as you take your own work seriously, everyone else on here does too. There's always hagglers, but that's the case everywhere.
