laptop questions

HP Beats laptop vs. macbook pro I know that the hp looks better on paper, but everyone who has ever had a macbook that I talk to seems to swear by them. Which is the better laptop? I will be doing some video editing, and a lot of traveling with whichever one I buy.

They're both going to be fast. Comes down to which software/OS you want to work with and whether your willing to pay the extra $400 for mac. I prefer video editing on the mac using FCP over Premiere but you will have to pay for that or use iMovie instead which is fine for consumer type movies. Depending on how you plan to import video firewire port is needed for non solid state cameras, the mac wins there.

I been a windows user all my life, but after my dell studio 15 inch screwed me, i've bought my self the new generation of mac 15 in quad core.

TO be honest, i'm happy with my decision. The reason enjoy using this is because it's efficiency. The battery lasts longer. No over heating problem whatsoever. OS is much cleaner and simpler. It does have a fancy look, but it's not like Vista or Windows 7 where these OS use so much of their power for the the purdyness of the OS.

I'm not computer geek, but i've been using computers all my life. I enjoy the Mac, because it's much "cleaner".

ehh.

i went big and impulse bought a 17" macbook pro about 3 months ago. first time owning a mac. so heres my 2 cents

the argument that macs are for professionals and etc is bullshit. anything you need to do on a mac you can do in windows now with the same / better programs.

personally i enjoy my mac because of the RIDICULOUS battery life - its fucking long. longest ive ever seen in a laptop. that alone might justify the stupid prices apple has..

ive been able to kill this thing very easily in some usage (using a windows virtual machine in parallels in unity is extremely taxing for a 2.7k+ notebook. im not impressed.

id say you'd really have to look at what you want. if you're going to be doing a lot of nerding and crazy shit, id spend the 2.7 youd put into a mac and dump it into a tank windows notebook problem is your battery life will most likely blow cock.

tl;dr + notes
- macs are overpriced and your mostly paying for a name
- going big with mac isn't really going big - performance isnt as bmw as you thought it''d be
- windows can do all the same things a mac can
- windows battery usually blow ass
- mac is nice. so are windows.
- hp's a solid brand, good products and good support, probably your best bet. i can go on how many hp laptops ive used and they're rocks.
- if you get a mac you can always run boot camp for windows

(i use windows to blanket all the types of brands.. hp, asus, acer, etc)

To be fair battery life has nothing to do with Windows its because the laptop manufacturer uses a less expensive battery to keep the price down. If you buy online you are often given the choice to upgrade to a better battery with more cells like 9 or 12. Btw, hp sucks dick.

HP's pretty rank as a company. My wife's 7-year old Powerbook G4 has yet to see a service depot, while my 4-year old HP Pavilion's been in the shop twice - failed mobo both times, with a futzed mic jack on the second visit as well. I've also had to replace both the battery and the power adapter (hint: don't use direct-from-HP when doing this - utter ripoff, and you can get OEM parts elsewhere for much cheaper). They train their customer service peons to act like armed personnel, fending off any inquiries that might require escalation to a supervisor. If you want to get anything done with HP, it's best to have keep the executive complaint number in a handy place - you'll need it.

Still, it does work fairly well when it is working.

If it has anything to do with graphics I'd go with the HP. ATI Mobility > Intel HD Graphics. Hard. It also has twice the RAM and the CPU should also deliver a bit more. The price is also not to argue with.

Ditch the Beats and go with an HP Elitebook (the new ones are really nice). You can stick 9-cell battery in there and a solid state hard drive. That's what I'd do if I were going the PC route.

Also, for the Mac, which Core i7 is it? They're not all quad-core.

That's an 8-pound gaming notebook. Hardly portable and definitely overkill.
