Fantastic. Great score but just looking at the music alone, man there was some cool stuff. This one is one of the best scores i've heard in a long time. The use of ethnic instruments, the processing, the operatic singing and how that is processed.

I used to really loath simmer post rock pre simpsons. but he really nailed a score that works but I just brilliant. No cliches, lots of oddities, just quirky , vivid and very fresh.

He finally seems to have matured. Great stuff. Go see the movie.

Some nice wagner references, use of a mozart aria, this ennio trumpet theme. But it all works. Way better than the last one both score and music wise. Hope he gets the award.

Hopefully people copy cat him now too. Scores have been so cliche safe to the point that they are interchangeable.

The first one was surprisingly unshit. It wasn't a masterpiece, but certainly wasn't terrible either.

The soundtrack certainly has it's moments. I prefer Inception by miles, but it certainly has a charm that's lacking from most. Sounds Victorian.

Would not say Guy Richie is typical. Holywood ? yes. Good ? yes. That is rather rare. Honestly, one of the best productions done in a long time. But this is more about music. Even production wise, the score is just great.

That's kind of subjective and falsely complimentary of him. SH has resurrected him after a string of ever worsening quality films and box office flops. Lock stock was OK, but the plethora of mockney drivel that he followed with was fucking terribl and died at the box office, not to mention the films his and Madonna's production company made have gone down as some of the worst medium budget films ever made, with some of the worst return ratios in recent years (though no one beats Terry Gilliam for that crown).

When Rock and Rolla came it, the industry press tag line, was "can R&R save Guy ritchie's dwindling career?". It took $25m total and cost $18m in pure production costs, so by the time they'd paid distribution, and marketing it was a break even picture of they were lucky.

He's done well with the SH franchise, and they are good films, so far but they actually didn't expect the first one to do well until the producers saw the final product and got a nice surprise. In fact if you look at the credits, you'll see the first one wasn't actually composed by Zimmer - he was executive music producer, and essentially palmed it off to his protoge.

Then the 1st film does well, and now Hans is front and center on the second one. Smart move.

yes but not typical. THat was the point. Lock stock was a classic film. But that sort of heavy handed dialogue just got a little too heavy.

but ya this is more about the music. Also Kung Fu panda 2, as far as just scoring was brilliant. But I think Powell had more to do with that. The way the music just wraps around the action and drama is flawless. And that action cue where he is in like this wheel barrow and lands and everything cuts. That is fucking hard to do. As a conductor. I mean there are tempo changes, it is rather long and it just ends and cuts perfectly. That is fucking hard to do, I mean when i heard it. I watched the sequence over 5 times. MY girlfrined was like, um why are you watching a cartoon, and why the fuck are you watching that one part over and over.

The first one was composed by Hans no ? That theme was his. The concept of using gypsy violins. I mean every movie , he has a team but he was still a composer on the project. I think he just gives himself the title even tho he composes. He doesn't seem to care lately.

Inception was great too. I used to loath the lame sentimental Zimmer but i think after like the simpsons, he realized he should stick to what he knows. that was just an awful score. I mean it is really a trainwreck.

Another thing he seems to be doing is giving people more leeway. Those cadenzas where most likely not written out and just performed. That sort of virtuosic violin playing, you can't write it if you cna't play it. i mean you just don't write cadenzas like that. You tell the soloist what you want and he / she does it.

ITs just been a really bad decade for hollywood and if this keeps on going, maybe i might go back. I think the quality of scores in like 2009 was at an all time low. Like just shit. everything was batman but without the stuff that made batman good ie production.

I watched the trailers and it looked terribly cheesy. It didn't interest me as an action movie, nor did it interest me as a murder mystery. If they can't hook me with a 3 minute trailer, why should I trust they can make a full length movie work?

Compare this to MI:4 and Girl with the Dragon tattoo, it makes Sherlock Holmes look like shit. Dragon actually has a solid murder mystery story to it, and MI:4 looks like it will be an awesome action film.

As far as scores go, they are just icing on the cake. If the movie sucks I don't find myself redeeming my time with an excellent score.

The only soundtracks I have cared about are from great movies: Matrix(1), Shawshank Redemption, Star Wars, Dark Knight.

trailers are made to look cheasy. THey are designed for the average american. They really mean nothing. They are all the same. There are 4 types of trailers.

and MI 4 ? you can't knock hollywood cheese and mention MI 4. Honestly man.
And the girl with the dragon tattoo ? guess what that was made in 2009. You are talking about the hollywood wihte washed version.

this isn't about the movie. And if you are going to say it sucks back it up. The acting is great. The scenery is great. THe music is great. Saying it sucks is not quite compelling. I have no idea what your agenda is.

And the problem with you and so many others is you cna't explain why you don't like something. So why fucking bother ? IF you can't explain why you feel a certain why, just don't post.

Trailers are meant to intrigue people and serve as a preview for the movie.

I haven't seen Sherlock Holmes, but it looks like it has average action sequences and they were mashed into the preview to create hype.

The MI:4 is an action movie, and everyone going to see it isn't going for the story. But the trailer reflects that and it gives you a pretty good taste of some of the higher quality sequences and stunts in the film. The end of one of the trailers has Ethan leaping off of the tallest building in the world, to another adjacent window in the hopes of catching himself.

The sherlock trailers is filled with generic explosions, slow motion scenes that are terribly cliched and extremely anti climatic. There's also thee "I gotta duck in this confined space I can't get out of so I can avoid getting shot as the bad guys shoot above my head" scene.

you don't seem to understand that trailers rarely have the actual music. THey are all the same. Deep voice with big drum hits. Trailers are not a part of the scoring process. That is a decision made by the marketing guys.

Perhaps the reason the trailer sucks is that they are trying to make the cliche trailer with loud bangs and unlike the hollywood drivel that lives up to the shitty trailers, they weren't really able to convey the movie.

Honestly dude, defending your choices by the trailer is pathetic. Trailers are designed for idiots. Have you not noticed every trailer is the same.Like i said, there are 4 types of trailers. Thats it. They al are the same otherwise. The movie needs to fit the trailer, not the other way around.

Trailers can only convey the most simple ideas ie the shit you think is good MI4. Anything remotely interesting by virtue of middle america being complete idiots will not be captured by the trailer. YEs they are meant to intrigue you, but you in terms of the marketing team is a 16 year old that is more or less an idiot. that is the target audience for trailers.

You are really starting to annoy me. Save the 12 $. HOnestly, this post was about the score. Why you are trying to rate a movie based on a fucking trailer, well it really makes you look kinda daft. Surely you aren'y that naive to think trailers actually exist as an abstract to the movie.

honestly dude,

look at 4 action movies, the trailers for each are identical. Or they vary within the 4 types. They really are that formulaic. This formula is actually on paper.

here is one

text across the screen with silence, sub bass 40 ( in the 90s they used voice
Every text that is like shocking , big drum bang

Between the text and drum bang, short clips of ADD crackcocaine clips that make you think this is going to be so intense.

That goes on for 20 seconds.

Build up more bangs, more clips.

NOw there are 2 ways after this part

A. You change pace, with a source track that shows the human side of it which then transforms about 20 seconds from the end with generic loud drums and brass speading up and then silence. Comming to a theatre near you. This is the only voice you hear.

B. IT goes straight to the crazy action with slight 1 second pauses for some dialogue. 3 in total. Same finish as the other.

I mean it is so fucking generic , it is funny. trailers are just a sad window into how people are excited by obvious stimuli wihtout noticing shit, wasn't this like the same as the last 20 action trailers ? I bet it will be awesome.

And the music they use ? Catalog music from the studio. I annoy the fuck out of anyone i see a movie with because every trailer, I can tell you the music, what movie it was from, what year what composer. The only thing the trailler people add is drums. Thats it. ITs just an edit job after that.
