That's kind of subjective and falsely complimentary of him. SH has resurrected him after a string of ever worsening quality films and box office flops. Lock stock was OK, but the plethora of mockney drivel that he followed with was fucking terribl and died at the box office, not to mention the films his and Madonna's production company made have gone down as some of the worst medium budget films ever made, with some of the worst return ratios in recent years (though no one beats Terry Gilliam for that crown).
When Rock and Rolla came it, the industry press tag line, was "can R&R save Guy ritchie's dwindling career?". It took $25m total and cost $18m in pure production costs, so by the time they'd paid distribution, and marketing it was a break even picture of they were lucky.
He's done well with the SH franchise, and they are good films, so far but they actually didn't expect the first one to do well until the producers saw the final product and got a nice surprise. In fact if you look at the credits, you'll see the first one wasn't actually composed by Zimmer - he was executive music producer, and essentially palmed it off to his protoge.
Then the 1st film does well, and now Hans is front and center on the second one. Smart move.

I watched the trailers and it looked terribly cheesy. It didn't interest me as an action movie, nor did it interest me as a murder mystery. If they can't hook me with a 3 minute trailer, why should I trust they can make a full length movie work?
Compare this to MI:4 and Girl with the Dragon tattoo, it makes Sherlock Holmes look like shit. Dragon actually has a solid murder mystery story to it, and MI:4 looks like it will be an awesome action film.
As far as scores go, they are just icing on the cake. If the movie sucks I don't find myself redeeming my time with an excellent score.
The only soundtracks I have cared about are from great movies: Matrix(1), Shawshank Redemption, Star Wars, Dark Knight.

honestly dude,
look at 4 action movies, the trailers for each are identical. Or they vary within the 4 types. They really are that formulaic. This formula is actually on paper.
here is one
text across the screen with silence, sub bass 40 ( in the 90s they used voice
Every text that is like shocking , big drum bang
Between the text and drum bang, short clips of ADD crackcocaine clips that make you think this is going to be so intense.
That goes on for 20 seconds.
Build up more bangs, more clips.
NOw there are 2 ways after this part
A. You change pace, with a source track that shows the human side of it which then transforms about 20 seconds from the end with generic loud drums and brass speading up and then silence. Comming to a theatre near you. This is the only voice you hear.
B. IT goes straight to the crazy action with slight 1 second pauses for some dialogue. 3 in total. Same finish as the other.
I mean it is so fucking generic , it is funny. trailers are just a sad window into how people are excited by obvious stimuli wihtout noticing shit, wasn't this like the same as the last 20 action trailers ? I bet it will be awesome.
And the music they use ? Catalog music from the studio. I annoy the fuck out of anyone i see a movie with because every trailer, I can tell you the music, what movie it was from, what year what composer. The only thing the trailler people add is drums. Thats it. ITs just an edit job after that.
